Falun Gong Practitioners' Family Members Appeal for Justice

Nov. 14, 2010

(Clearwisdom.net) It has been 11 years since the Chinese Communist regime started to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. The violent and brutal persecution of practitioners has destroyed millions of families. Falun Gong practitioners' family members have also suffered tremendously in this catastrophe.

1. The Real Situation of Practitioners Kept in Custody

The regime has arrested millions of practitioners and sent them to prisons and forced labor camps to be persecuted. On June 24, 2010, The Epoch Times published an article entitled, "Falun Gong Practitioners Tortured to Death and Their Clothes Stained with Blood Were Buried in the Dark Den of Masanjia." In the article, Ms. Gai Fengzhen from the Tiexi District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, who has been detained at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp twice for petitioning, told the reporter about her experiences in the notorious camp:

"On the evening of September 9 or 10, around 9:30 p.m., on my way to the bathroom, I saw the prison guards torturing two Falun Gong practitioners. Six male guards were beating a female practitioner whose last name was Zhang. They used cotton swabs and clamps to stuff her genitalia. In the end, they beat one practitioner to death. Six men wearing white gloves carried her body away, but we don't know her name. Several of us detainees witnessed them carrying her body away. The security division head of the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp was also present. We saw the prison guards burying something behind the forced labor camp. The next day, we saw them dig up some clothes stained with blood--it was the detainee's uniform.

"There are various methods of savage torture used in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, including handcuffing and beating the detainees, hanging them up, tying them on a death bed, or forcing them to sit on a tiger bench. They also beat female detainees' genitalia. Such tortures are happening every minute. For the Big Hang Up, they hang one hand high up and the other at a lower position, or they tie the detainee to four beds and stretch them before hanging them up. They shocked the detainees with electric batons. The voltage was so high that there were even purple sparks. After the detainees were burned by the electric baton, the officers poured cold water over them. Their backs were so covered with wounds that they couldn't even lie down."

In the article "Eyewitness Account: Falun Gong Practitioner Driven to Mental Collapse at a Forced Labor Camp" published on the Clearwisdom website (http://www.clearwisdom.net/html/articles/2010/3/7/115189.html), Ms. Zeng Zheng, who was a master's degree student at Beijing University said: "With me in the labor camp was a young woman in her 20s from Gansu Province who had been arrested for appealing on behalf of Falun Gong. She was initially very determined in her belief. After five days and nights of non-stop torture, however, her mind broke down. I was present the night she had a nervous breakdown. She was perfectly normal one minute, but the next minute I noticed a confused and blank look in her eyes. The look appeared sort of stupid. Then she burst into really loud and silly laughter. I knew right away she was no longer her true self."

Another Clearwisdom report, "Violence against Falun Gong Practitioners in Shijiazhuang City Forced Labor Camp" (http://www.clearwisdom.net/html/articles/2010/4/5/115901.html), revealed a horrific crime committed by the police officers. In January 2009, prison guards Zhang Li and Dong Xinguo brutally beat and tortured the practitioners. "Mr. Mo Anqi's jaw was broken in the assault. He was rushed to the Hebei Third Hospital for emergency treatment. He had to undergo a three-hour surgery. Guards brutality punctured one of Mr. Zheng Wei's ear drums. Afterward he suffered from ringing in the ears and a headache. One criminal inmate later on recalled that Mr. Zheng Wei's head was badly swollen and the floor was covered with his blood. Mr. Yan Feng suffered open wounds on his hips."

Every moment things like this are taking place in China.

2. Why Do These People Commit Such Evil Crimes?

Mr. Sun Yi is a native of Xi'an City. Before the 2008 Olympic Games, he was arrested by the Beijing 610 Office. Later, he was transferred to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province. From then on, his family lost contact with him. His elderly mother and other relatives traveled thousands of miles back and forth between Xi'an and Shenyang City (where the forced labor camp is) several times. Their requests to visit him were rejected by camp officials. On March 25, 2010, Mr. Sun's family went to the forced labor camp with a lawyer. The lawyer stated that it was a violation of the law if the police refused to allow Mr. Sun's family to visit him. The police officer blurted out, "If we followed the law, wouldn't this place be like a market?"

Under the guidance of the regime's authorities, some of the police officers in the prison and forced labor camp deliberately and actively participate in committing these evil crimes. How can they devote themselves to something that is so savage and inhumane? The author gives three reasons.

First of all, they rely heavily on the tyranny of the Communist regime. The regime's power is based on lies and violence. And the police officers mistakenly think that they can rely on the regime and so they work hard for them.

Secondly, they spare no effort to cover up the truth of the persecution.

Around July 2010, officials from Shenyang Suburban Procuratorate went to the Third Division of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp to investigate the mistreatment of Mr. Sun. The head of the Third Division, Yu Jiang, and officer Li Meng heard in advance who was coming, so they made up a set of lies to deceive the procuratorate officials. They also threatened the detainees who monitored Mr. Sun to repeat everything exactly as they ordered them to. Police officer Su Jufeng even intimidated Mr. Sun's family, demanding to know, "What did Sun Yi say about me?"

On June 22, 2010, the Minghui website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom) published an article "Many People Working for the Communist Regime Are Collecting Evidence of the Persecution against Falun Gong on Their Own." It mentioned in the article that nowadays in China, the biggest human rights abuse and social problem is the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. In order to force practitioners to give up their belief, the authorities persecute practitioners using every method imaginable--every ancient and modern torture is being employed. They even harvest organs from living practitioners and make exorbitant profits. The persecution is carried out systematically, and quite a number of departments are involved in it. And the regime is doing everything it can to prevent information about the persecution from being revealed to the public.

The article also mentioned an official from Shan'xi political and judiciary system who disclosed how a former professor of Xi'an Institute of Technology, Mr. Yang Hengqing, and his son, Mr. Yang Zhaojun, were persecuted by the regime. "That official said: 'Because of my conscience, I have been collecting evidence of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. And I'm going to make it public at a proper time to call into account those persecutors.' The official didn't say much in his article, but his words have scared quite a few people."

Thirdly, the evildoers subscribe to the "ostrich philosophy," that is, hiding their heads in the sand, thinking that they can escape punishment by saying they are only carrying out orders from their superiors.

After World War II, fascist war criminals were brought to trial in Nuremberg. This was a great example that those helping the Chinese communist regime should pay attention to. At that time the International Court unanimously agreed that the behavior of a person who betrays his conscience cannot be forgiven by using the excuse of just following the government's instructions.

3. The Family Members of Falun Gong Practitioners Appeal for Their Loved Ones

Masanjia Forced Labor Camp is one of the most notorious places in China for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Numerous incidents of severe persecution have taken place here. One egregious example of sexual abuse used as torture took place when 18 female practitioners who didn't give up practicing Falun Gong were stripped naked and thrown into a cell full of male prisoners.

During the two years that Mr. Sun was persecuted in the labor camp, his family was not allowed to visit him. At the beginning of 2010, his family heard that Mr. Sun was being tortured and beaten in Masanjia. He was deprived of food for two months and subjected to forced feeding as a method of torture. To further his suffering, his mouth was unclenched and kept in an open position for a long time. Mr. Sun was also stretched for long periods of time and hung up airplane style for several months, as well as forced to do extensive periods of hard labor.

On April 9, Mr. Sun's family and their lawyer went to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp to investigate the brutal mistreatment of Mr. Sun. However, when the lawyer and the family went to the management hall in the labor camp, five or six plainclothes police officers suddenly rushed towards them and violently shoved them. The lawyer almost fell off of the concrete staircase.

However, Mr. Sun's family weren't intimidated. They appealed to many authorities and called for justice to stop the evil persecution. Their unremitting efforts finally rescued Mr. Sun and they were finally allowed to visit him. At the same time, officials from the Third Division of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp had to take inquiries from the procuratorate and other institutions. It is reported that all the torture instruments put in the head office of the Third Division have been removed, and the division officials have also announced that they are basically not taking Falun Gong practitioners anymore.

4. The Law Should Be a Powerful Weapon to Uphold Justice While Restraining the Evil

Many family members of Falun Gong practitioners in China are no longer afraid or feel helpless. They have started to appeal for justice and to rescue their loved ones by suing the evildoers. They are taking every opportunity to expose the evildoers' crimes and this is effectively stopping the evildoers from harming practitioners.
