Ms. Du Mingliang's Personal Account of Persecution in a Psychiatric Hospital

Dec. 16, 2010 |   By Ms. Du Mingliang

(Clearwisdom.net) My name is Du Mingliang. I used to be employed by the Huaian City Gear Factory in Jiangsu Province. I first came across the precious book Zhuan Falun in Guangdong Province on January 17, 1997. Only two or three months after practicing Falun Gong, my whole body felt light.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong in July 1999. I went to Beijing via Shanghai to appeal on December 25, 1999, and have since been subjected to the persecution.

The Qinghe District 610 Office in Huaian City, along with the Public Security Bureau, repeatedly arrested me and ransacked my home. They illegally detained me five times, sentencing me to two years and nine months of forced labor, and later sentenced me to four years and six months of imprisonment. They even alienated me from my family, trying to force me to give up my belief.

Tortured in a Psychiatric Hospital

Qinghe District Domestic Security Division officers arrested me on June 20, 2005, and detained me in the Huaian City Party School Hotel, where I was tortured. Besides depriving me of sleep for nine days, Chang Shulin, the head of the Domestic Security Division, forced me to sit on the floor with my legs perpendicular to each other while he stomped on my knees. Officer Wang Jianhuai pulled my hair with so much force that I was lifted off the floor, and officer Cai Zibin punched and kicked me.

Huaian Detention Center authorities sent me to Nantong Women's Prison in Jiangsu Province on February 6, 2006. I refused to put on the prison uniform. The guards then ordered two collaborators to watch me. I was not allowed to leave the cell, wash, or use the bathroom. During the day they forced me to watch videos that denounced Falun Gong. When I refused to cooperate with them, the prison authorities sent me to the Pukou Prison Psychiatric Hospital in Nanjing City.

The hospital refused to accept me the first time, so I was sent back to Nantong Women's Prison. I was so exhausted that they were able to put the prison uniform on me while I was asleep.

In February 2007, Gu, the prison commissar, and Wu Nuanqin, the deputy political head of the Sixth Ward, took me to the psychiatric hospital once again. I shouted, "Falun Dafa is good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!" The psychiatric hospital workers tied me up in a bed, with my limbs tied to each of the bed poles. They secured my thighs and upper arms tightly, which was extremely painful.

During the monthly physical checkup, they found that I had high blood pressure and attempted to give me some unknown drug. I refused to take it voluntarily, so they force-fed it to me. A day and a half later, I so dizzy I could not stand up. My systolic pressure dropped to 60 and my diastolic pressure couldn't even be detected. They had to stop giving me the drug. The prison authorities took me back to the prison a month later.

When I returned to the prison, the guards constantly tried to brainwash me. They took photos of me, recorded my conversations, kept a log of my everyday activities, and didn't provide food, trying to starve me.

They enlarged my photo and hung it on the bulletin board, calling the entire prison section to go up to my photo and criticize me. Guard Lu Xiaoqin imitated my handwriting and signed the three statements renouncing Falun Gong. The statements had actually been written by Xia Jufen, a former practitioner that had turned against Dafa. I exposed them in front of the entire section the next day.

The guards used another tactic. They contacted my ex-husband, who had divorced me more than 10 years before, recorded his verbal attacks against me, and broadcast the recordings during the brainwashing sessions in the prison. In addition, they deprived me of sleep for many days. I was mentally exhausted and ended up signing the three statements.

In 2008, several other practitioners and I signed a joint solemn declaration to void anything we had signed under pressure and against our will. The guards then intensified the persecution. They ordered criminal inmates to watch me. The inmates did not let me leave the cell or even talk to other practitioners. They recorded what I said and did every day until I was released on July 22, 2009.
