Mr. Ruan Fanghua

On the evening of August 3, 2010, Mr. Ruan Fanghua was attacked by several plainclothes police officers at his home at Lu Village, Yuelu District, Changsha. The police had turned the electricity off to his home, and attacked Mr. Ruan when he opened the front door to check what had happened. They dragged him into a car, and took him to the Laodaohe Town Brainwashing Center in the Kaifu District, Changsha, which is under the control of the Hunan 610 Office.

Mr. Ruan was later transferred to the Changsha Legal Education Training Center by officers from the Yuelu Police Department. He was detained on the third floor with a dozen other practitioners, each in a separate room. They were constantly monitored by two people, and were not allowed to leave their rooms. Agents from the Hunan 610 Office and other 610 Offices within the province attempted to force the practitioners to renounce their belief. The practitioners were surrounded by four or five agents, who took turns shouting at them for the whole day. They constantly slandered Falun Gong and its founder, and threatened the practitioners with forced labor or prison if they did not cooperate and renounce their belief.

On August 25, Mr. Ruan was taken to the Ningxiang Detention Center by agents from the Changsha 610 Office. An arrest warrant was issued for Mr. Ruan on September 20 by the Yuelu Police Department, which recently demanded that the Yuelu Procuratorate put Mr. Ruan on trial.

This was not the first time that Mr. Ruan was persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party. He was fired from his position as factory supervisor at the Yuanjiang Paper Factory in 2005. Then he and his family moved to his parents-in-law's home in Changsha. He was arrested and put in the Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp in Hunan Province in May 2005, and again in October 2007, for telling people the facts about Falun Gong. During his second time at the camp, at age 56, he was found to have high blood pressure, and was released for medical reasons.
