April 23, 2010

(Clearwisdom.net) Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company graced the stage at Hui-Sun Auditorium, National Chung Hsing University, Taichung City, on the afternoon of April 17, performing to a full house. Dr. Chiu Tai-san, assistant professor in the Department of Financial and Economic Law, Asia University, said, "It is truly an honor for me to see Shen Yun Performing Arts. I have never seen this show before.

"I wanted to several years ago when I was still in the US," said Professor Chiu, referring to his awareness of Shen Yun's reputation. He added, "I am very happy today that I can see such a magnificent show in Taichung--my birthplace."

Dr. Chiu Tai-san, former Deputy Minister of Mainland Affairs Council and Deputy Mayor of Kaohsiung City Government, hopes to pass along the excellence of Shen Yun to friends.

He appreciated the show that showcases traditional Chinese culture and said, "From the dance programs of Shen Yun, especially those that portray Chinese culture, we see the delicate side of our culture.

"The solo "Hesitate No Longer," performed by Ms. Huang Pi-ju, received a lot of 'Encores!' from the audience." Professor Chiu admired the soprano's performance very much. The enthusiasm of the audience and the repeated calls for "Encore" also affected him.

"I noticed that many people are here with their entire families to see the show. It is clear a Shen Yun performance is a cultural event of great significance," pointed out Dr. Chiu, as he observed that the show was attended by many young children and older people.

Professor Chiu came to the show with a friend, hoping that his friend could also experience the wonder of Shen Yun. He said, "For so long, I have had very high praise for performances like Shen Yun ever since I was a legislator and held government positions."

Before joining the faculty at Asia University, Dr. Chiu held several important positions in the government, including Deputy Minister of Mainland Affairs Council, Deputy Mayor of Kaohsiung City Government, and Member of the Legislative Yuan.

Touched by the Performances

"I am still overwhelmed by the content of the program, the magnificence of the dances, and the great dedication [of the performers]," praised Mr. Huang Yaode, president of the Taichung City Travel Agent Association, after watching the Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company's fourth show in Taichung.

"I believe they [Shen Yun artists] have devoted tremendous effort to present such a perfect show. That's why what they have presented to us is something very true, very compassionate, and very beautiful. I just have this kind of feeling," Mr. Huang said.

Being engaged in the tourist business, Mr. Huang often has the opportunity to see different ethnic groups perform in mainland China. He said that Shen Yun performers have truly demonstrated the essence of these ethnic groups' traditional cultures.

He particularly praised the young Chinese dancers who have grown up outside of China, saying, "They are great. Though they are ABC [America-born Chinese], at such young ages, they illustrate [the traditional culture] so well. They are really great. It is really amazing."

Fascinated by the perfect coordination of the dynamic backdrops and performers, he said, "The coordination was so wonderful between the backdrops and the dancers' performances. It is a reflection of the superb organization of Shen Yun. I think this is how it differs from other performing arts companies.

"There are significant meanings behind this show," he said, stressing that he felt the content of Shen Yun had many different layers of meaning. "Based on our personal experience, we might have different feelings about what we saw. Of course, if we want to be enlightened to high levels, we need to see it more than once, so that we are able to comprehend its insightful connotations and essence. Perhaps this is what we call 'enlightenment' or 'wisdom.'"

Mr. Huang concluded by saying that he would be very happy to recommend Shen Yun to others, including his relatives and friends. "When the opportunity comes, I'll try my best to promote [Shen Yun], to share something good. ... Everyone should promote things that are beautiful and good as much as possible, so that more people are able to participate in it and appreciate it, in hopes that the entire society can be more harmonious, with more truthfulness, benevolence ,and grace."

Mainland Chinese Theatergoer: "Shen Yun's performance in China would be everybody's wish"

After attending the Shen Yun's fourth show in Taichung National Chung Hsing University's Hui Sun Hall on April 18, Ms. Yang from mainland China said, "It is indeed very beautiful. I feel very lucky! It is my wish that all the Chinese people could see the Shen Yun show.

"Such magnificent things are supposed to be known by everyone, in particular Chinese, because it is our own culture."

She lamented the fact that people in China nowadays are not able to see this kind of performance: "It [Shen Yun] cannot be performed in China. I think it is a pity that people [in China] are not able to see this show. Today I feel very honored to be able to see [Shen Yun], and I feel very sorry that they have no way of seeing the show."

Ms. Yang said that traditional culture has gradually died out in China. "Most performing arts have been replaced by pop songs and rock music. Only Shen Yun is really performing Chinese traditions."

Ms. Yang was aware that Shen Yun was unable to perform in Hong Kong earlier this year because the Hong Kong government had bowed to pressure by the Chinese regime. "When returning to mainland China earlier this year, I was planning to see Shen Yun in Hong Kong during my stopover there. But I was told that it was canceled.

"It is ridiculous. Many people in China were unable to buy tickets [for the Shen Yun show in Hong Kong]. I really hope that every Chinese is able to see the show," she said.

It was her first time to see Shen Yun, and she appreciated the presentation of traditional Chinese culture: "I was deeply moved, because I felt that Shen Yun fully demonstrated the 5,000-year-old history of China.

"It was indeed great that those who were unfamiliar with Chinese history could understand it through these dances. It is something hard to come by," Ms. Yang said.

She reiterated, "Having Shen Yun perform in China would be everybody's wish."
