Making Improvements through Memorizing the Fa

Oct. 3, 2011 |   By a Dafa practitioner in China

(Clearwisdom.net) Memorizing the Fa is a means of studying the Fa. During the sixteen years of Dafa cultivation, I am now memorizing the Fa for the fifth time.

Foundation for Memorizing the Fa

During the previous four times of memorizing the Fa, I hadn't memorized the entirety of Zhuan Falun. I felt it was too difficult, and I gradually gave up. Later, I realized that not being able to memorize it was because I did not have the right foundation for doing so. Memorizing the Fa is just a means of studying the Fa; it is unlike ordinary people memorizing things. We memorize the Fa in order to study the Fa well, assimilate to the Fa, and purify our minds and behavior. There are reasons when we have problems memorizing it or cannot memorize it smoothly. It is a reflection of not having cultivated well in certain regards, and it means that we need to look inward. So, the process of memorizing the Fa is a cultivation process. While memorizing the Fa, if I had a certain human mindset or experienced interference, I immediately removed it, rectifying my thoughts to correctly lay out the foundation for studying the Fa. Sometimes I repeatedly enlightened to the deeper meaning of the Fa principles. After memorizing the Fa, I felt a peaceful state of mind, which helped me handle problems better.

Respecting Teacher and Dafa

As I went deeper into memorizing the Fa, I gained a deeper understanding of respecting Teacher and the Fa. I also gained a deeper understanding that Teacher and Dafa created the universe, created all life in the universe, and gave meaning to all lives. Respecting Teacher and the Fa is something natural for Dafa disciples. To learn the Fa well, we must first of all respect Teacher and the Fa. I didn't do well in this respect in the past. My posture was not proper when I studied the Fa. As I realized this, I was able to sit in the full lotus position for an hour during Fa study. It was a relatively big breakthrough for me, but I was still lagging behind fellow practitioners. Almost every fellow practitioner in our study group sits in the full lotus position while they hold their Dafa books and forms a righteous field, a harmonious field. Each fellow practitioner improves their xinxing in such an environment.

Eliminating Gaps among Practitioners

As I was memorizing the Fa, I focused on assimilating to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and my xinxing continued to improve. I could thus treat fellow practitioners sincerely and melted away the gap with a fellow practitioner that had existed for years.

For many years, I got along with this fellow practitioner seemingly harmoniously, but when I saw the fellow practitioner's attachment, I was displeased, thinking that he had been cultivating for many years and yet still hadn't changed. When I spoke with him, I felt a certain level of resentment toward him. When a conflict arose, I did not always look inward and let my bias toward the practitioner affect me. Sometimes we sat down to talk, but it only resolved things on the surface, without addressing the deeper attachments.

Through constantly memorizing the Fa, it became clear to me that the relationship between fellow practitioners needed to conform to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. One must have a genuine heart and a humble attitude towards fellow practitioners. All the contradictions we encounter in cultivation are to get rid of everything inconsistent with Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, so as to cleanse ourselves and to meet the standard at our respective levels.

After I realized this Fa principle, when I had a conflict with the fellow practitioner, we both calmed down and looked inward, and I saw my shortcomings in our past dealings. The gap was eliminated through looking inward. Influenced by the Communist Party's culture, many practitioners in Mainland China seemed to be more rash and impulsive, so I realized that calmness was more consistent with the state of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
