Jakarta: Practitioners Express Their Concern about the Detention of Two Fellow Practitioners in Vietnam

Nov. 30, 2011

(Clearwisdom.net) On November 10, 2011, in a show trial, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Vu Duc Trung, 31, CEO of a high-tech company, and Mr. Le Van Thanh, 36, were sentenced in Hanoi to 3 and 2 years in prison respectively for broadcasting uncensored news programs via radio into China.

The Vietnamese government arrested the men after a diplomatic memo was sent on May 30, 2010, from the Chinese Embassy to the Ministry of Investigation and Security in Vietnam. The memo stated that “It was recommended that all ... activities of Falun Gong individuals in the Vietnam territory must be attacked and stopped.”

To express the deep concern of Indonesian Falun Gong practitioners about the detention of Trung and Thanh, representatives of the Falun Dafa Association in Indonesia visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Jakarta on November 23, 2011, and submitted a protest letter that urged Vietnam to resist pressure from the Chinese ruler, to not follow the CCP's irrational instructions, and to release Mr. Trung and Mr. Thanh from detention.

Four practitioners were received by officials of the Vietnamese Embassy in Jakarta. The spokesperson for the Indonesian Falun Dafa Association first clarified the facts about Falun Gong and then pointed out that Falun Gong is not banned in Vietnam. Further, Trung and Thanh did nothing that violates Vietnamese law or hurts the Vietnamese government or its people. They only wanted more people to know the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong in China.

An embassy official said they would peruse the letter and the enclosure submitted and pass it along to the relevant department.
