Three Elderly Women Arrested in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province

Jan. 25, 2012 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent from Heilongjiang Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Shi Jianhua (in her 50's), Ms. Wang Xixue (62) and Ms. Liu Xiaoqin (57) were arrested by Feng Haibo and others from the Domestic Security Division of Daqing City Police Department in the early evening of September 13, 2011. They were held in Daqing Detention Center. On October 25, they sent Ms. Wang and Ms. Liu to Harbin Female Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labor Camp without notifying their families.

Ms. Liu, who was very weak, was sentenced to fifteen months of forced labor. Ms. Wang was not accepted into the labor camp because she had very high blood pressure and failed the physical examination. She was taken back to Ranghulu District Branch Police Station. The police released her after the team leader Sun and Zhang Wei extorted 20,000 yuan from her family.

Ms. Shi has been held at the detention center for over four months. Her family members finally got to visit her on January 4, 2012. Officials at the Ranghulu District Procuratorate held a court hearing on January 10, lasting for less than half an hour. A few of her family members were allowed to attend. Her son hurried back from another city, but the court would not allow him to appeal for his mother. Ms. Shi was very thin and her face was pale due to her mistreatment in the detention center. On a cold winter day of January 10, she was brought to court wearing thin slippers. Her family members cried when they saw her.

How they improved through practicing Falun Gong

Before practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Wang was rude and abrasive. In her own words, whether at home or at work, “No matter what the circumstances, I wanted to have the upper hand. If I did not have the final say in something, I would feel uncomfortable. As a result of this competitiveness, I developed all kinds of illnesses. After I practiced Falun Gong, I learned to endure, and be patient and open-minded. I stopped fighting with my husband and competing with others. I became healthier, as well.”

Ms. Liu said, “Before practicing Falun Gong, I was more introverted. Whenever something went wrong, I would sulk. My chest hurt and I felt uncomfortable. I had illnesses all over my body, and I suffered a lot. After practicing Falun Gong, I learned that the practice teaches people to be good and have high morals. When I encounter something that goes wrong, I think about whether I did something wrong. Then I feel better. My xinxing was improved. I no longer get angry with others. My illnesses have all disappeared and I feel happy every day.”

Ms. Shi began practicing Falun Gong in 1997. Before then she was not healthy and her mood was constantly going from one extreme to the other. After her husband divorced her, she felt very sad and could not eat or sleep well. She thought her husband was unfair to her, and even dreamed about fighting with him. After she started to practice, she became happier and healthier, and followed the principles of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance. She stopped complaining about her husband for abandoning her. Moreover, she now gets along well with him and his new wife. Several years ago, her mother, who was over 80 years old, became paralyzed from a severe illness and was bedridden for several years. Ms. Shi took good care of her mother until she passed away. Her friends and relatives witnessed the positive changes in Ms. Shi's character and were very impressed with Falun Gong.

Details of their arrest

Ms. Shi, who lives by herself in the Houlonggang Building District, was sharing a meal with Ms. Wang and Ms. Liu. When Ms. Liu opened the door to leave, she saw half a dozen plain-clothes policemen standing nearby. She quickly tried to close the door, but they rushed forward, pushed her back into the room and barged in. One person showed a police ID and claimed that he was Feng Haipo from the Daqing Domestic Security Division.

The three practitioners were locked in a room. The officers then called the building officer Li Quan and the head of the Residential Committee Jing Yaling, telling them to come over. All of them ransacked the house for over two hours. They confiscated Ms. Shi's computer, printer, 10,000 yuan in cash and other personal belongings. One officer told Ms. Shi that they wanted to arrest her in 2007 but could not find her. Then they forcibly took her, Ms. Wang and Ms. Liu to the police car and drove them to Ranghulu District Branch Police Station.

Later that evening the officers took Ms. Wang's house key and drove her back to Houlonggang Building District to ransack her home. They confiscated her picture of Falun Dafa's Teacher, Dafa books and other personal belongings. Then they took her to the police station. After midnight, they went to the Xiyuan Building Region in Ranghulu and ransacked Ms. Liu's home. They confiscated Dafa books and truth-clarification materials, and left there at around 1 a.m.

Physically and mentally tortured

At around 8 a.m. on September 14, Ms. Shi, Ms. Wang and Ms. Liu were taken to Daqing Detention Center, where they were physically and mentally tortured. Their family members requested permission to visit them several times, but were refused. When they hired a lawyer to check on the practitioners, the lawyer told them that none of them were in good health. The lawyer said, “They are weak and have no energy. One of them has very high blood pressure.” After hearing this, their family members became worried for their safety, and went to the city police station to request their release. The officers there told them that they had to go to Ranghulu Branch Police Station. Officers at the station then told them that they had to contact the detention center.

On October 25, and without notifying their family members, the police transferred Ms. Liu and Ms. Wang to Harbin Women's Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labor Camp. However, officials at the camp refused to accept Ms. Wang because her blood pressure was very high.

Ms. Shi's son received the arrest documents from the police station at around November 15, 2011. According to the police, her case was being handled by the Ranghulu District Procuratorate. After several attempts to contact them, her family members were told that they had to ask for approval from the Daqing Political and Legal Committee to get her released. In the severe cold weather, her family members went to Daqing City Hall. They tried to go to the city's Political and Legal Committee Office, but they were closed, so they went to the City Appeals Office. Officials at the Appeals Office told them that they did not handle Falun Gong cases. Her family members then went to the police station. Once the person on duty heard that it was an issue about Falun Gong, he said they would not handle it and told her family members to leave.

When Ms. Shi's family members went to the Procuratorate on December 29, 2011 to ask about her case, they learned that it had been transferred to Ranghulu District Court. Officials at the court notified them that the hearing would be held on January 12, 2012. However, they actually held the hearing on January 10. In court, they deprived Ms. Shi of the right to appeal, and she could be sentenced to at least three years.

Ms. Liu's husband Lao Yu used to practice Falun Gong but stopped when the Chinese Communist Party started the persecution on July 20, 1999. He died of ill health at the beginning of 2010.
