(Minghui.org) Dr. Hua Taofeng works in a family planning center in Tongcheng County Hubei Province. Over the last 13 years of Falun Gong's persecution, she has been held six times, sent to labor camps twice, held in brainwashing centers twice, had her home ransacked six times, and been fined over 100,000 yuan. The following is an account of her persecution.
Before Dr. Hua began cultivation, she had all sorts of illnesses, including chronic gastritis, chronic enteritis, laryngitis, chronic pyelonephritis, thyroid tumors, uterine fibroids, and menopausal syndrome. She suffered daily. In order to cure her illnesses, she tried a qigong practice for three years with no result. She then began to learn Falun Gong in 1998. Usually when she read books, her eyes would feel dry and uncomfortable, but she did not feel that way when she read Zhuan Falun. She felt comfortable and was amazed by this cultivation method. She went to morning exercises daily and attended Fa study nightly. In just 6 short months, all of her illnesses disappeared. Through Fa study, she learned that Falun Gong was not just helping people to be healthy, the most important part was that it could guide people in cultivation. Zhuan Falun is a precious book that can guide people in how to cultivate. From that point on, she began true cultivation. Her personality became upbeat and her body healthy. Her family became harmonious, as well. They witnessed the amazing changes in her, and so her husband also began to practice Falun Gong in 1999.
On July 20, 1999, Dr. Hua and a dozen fellow practitioners learned that the government was planning to persecute Falun Gong. They rented a van and went to the Hubei Province government to appeal and clarify the truth about Falun Gong. Their car was stopped at the suburbs, and they were escorted back to Xianning. They were held in Xishan Hotel for two days by Tongcheng County police, they were forcibly photographed and had their fingerprints taken. They were also fined 50 yuan each. Afterward, they were released and sent back to their workplace. The director of the Family Planning Commission service station, Tan Mingshu, working with the 610 Office, Police Department and State Security Bureau, threatened Dr. Hua to turn in her Falun Gong books and write a guarantee statement not to practice Falun Gong, or else she would be fired.
In October 1999, the County Education Committee set up a brainwashing center. Several dozen Falun Dafa practitioners were persecuted there. They included Hua Taofeng, Xiong Yangpo, Du Chongwu, Hu Youming, Li Xiaochun and Ding Wangmei. The brainwashing was to last 20 days, but Dr. Hua was able to leave after a few days. She was fined 1,000 yuan. The perpetrators were from the 610 Office, Political and Judiciary Committee, Police Department, Justice Bureau, and the County Family Planning Committee.
After Dr. Hua left the brainwashing center, she and several fellow practitioners went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in November 1999. They could not find the appeals office in Beijing. They stayed near Fangshan District in Liulihe Town. There were fellow practitioners there from all over China. Some practitioners suggested, “Nobody can understand your dialect, if you go back home and do the exercises in a group, that is also validating the Fa.” After ten days, they went home. On November 24, 1999, Hua Taofeng, Wang Xinqing, Du Chongwu, Luo Lanfen and others did group exercises near Juanshui Town near the Juanshui river bank. They were arrested by Domestic Security director Pan Shaoming, He Kexiao, Li Yingcan, and Zhang Dinger. They were held in County No. 1 Detention Center for one month. The director of the detention center Chen Gaofeng forced them to memorize the rules and regulations. They were forced to write “guarantee statements” and wear prison uniforms. Dr. Hua refused to cooperate, so she was sent to a labor camp.
Dr. Hua was sent to Shayang Labor Camp, where she was not allowed to do exercises, talk or make phone calls. There were many Falun Gong practitioners in the labor camp. They began to refuse to cooperate with the guards. Since the labor camp ran out of inmates to monitor Falun Gong practitioners, they began transferring many of the practitioners to Hewang Detox Labor Camp in Wuhan City to intensify the persecution.
In Hewang Detox Labor Camp, the guards stripped Dr. Hua, cut her hair very short, and attempted to humiliate her. She was forced to study prison rules and regulations and write “thought reports”. They were forced to pull out yarn from small clothes to make rags, and seal envelopes with newspaper in it. They were not allowed to sleep if they did not finish their assignment for the day. After pulling so many rags, their fingernails were worn out and bleeding. They were subjected to sleep deprivation and beatings or were forced to stand for long periods of time if they did not finish their daily assignment. Dr. Hua was released on November 23, 2000.
On April 2, 2001, Hua Taofeng and another practitioner went to the County 610 Office to clarify the truth about Falun Dafa. They also demanded the release of practitioner Wang Xinqing. On April 5, Dr. Hua went to the County Chinese Medicine Institute, county printing factory and marketplace to pass out fliers. She was reported and arrested by County Domestic Security police officer Li Yingcan, Zhang Dinger and Yang Xiong. Her home was ransacked. They took her Falun Gong books and personal belongings. She was held in County No. 1 Detention Center for over two months.
In the detention center, Dr. Hua was doing the sitting meditation with another practitioner and was discovered by guard Zhou Jianfa. He beat them for over half an hour. They were both covered with bruises from head to toe. Their heads were severely swollen, and they were shackled and locked in a “death bed” for one day. Two months later, Dr. Hua was sent to Shizishan Detox Labor Camp in Hubei Province for a year and a half.
When she arrived at Shizishan Labor Camp, they discovered that she had hypertension, and they refused to take her. She was taken back to Tongcheng County Detention Center for another 15 days before she was released. Two weeks later, Xiao Yi, from her workplace, along with Juanshui Town administrators, county 610 Office staff, and police officers Li Yingcan, Zhang Dinger and Yang Xiong broke into her home and took her to the County No. 1 Detention Center for another one and a half years. They held her for another 50 days since it was during the CCP's 16th Congress. Her family was made to pay 500 yuan.
When Dr. Hua was working one day in 2005, police officers Li Yingcan, Zhang Dinger, Yang Xiong and Wu Hai along with Xiao Yi from her workplace arrested her at work. The County 610 Office director Xiong Linqing and police officer Wu Hai attempted to send her to Hubei Tangxunhu Brainwashing Center for further persecution. She shouted “Falun Dafa is good” all the way there. After the long term persecution, her health had deteriorated significantly. The brainwashing center found out that she had hypertension and refused to take her. They had to send her home.
In June 2006, she was again arrested by the same perpetrators and taken to County No. 1 Detention Center. She developed dangerous levels of hypertension and passed out. The perpetrators were afraid to take responsibility and sent her home that night.
Over the last 13 years of persecution, Dr. Hua has been deprived of work for five years without pay. Her husband is also a Falun Gong practitioner and was also held numerous times without pay. They were completely without any income for a lengthy period of time. Her two sons became homeless. She began working in January 2003, and her husband began working in July 2003. Their wages were dropped by three levels at that point.
