(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Chen Jianyong, Ms. Huang Zhaoxia, Ms. Wu Yuehong, and Ms. Xiong Xiaoxia were tried in Donghe District Court in Baotou City, Inner Mongolia on December 30, 2013. Relatives were not allowed to observe the trial, and lawyers were not allowed to defend the practitioners.
Authorities scheduled the trial for December 30 because it was the New Year holiday, and fewer people would know about the trial.
Family members were not informed about the trial, and attorneys were not allowed to defend their clients. When one attorney recorded the hearing, bailiffs assaulted him and confiscated the recording.
More than twenty police vehicles and 110-emergency police officers were on site. Many plainclothes officers blocked the court entrance, and scores of police officers patrolled the streets.
Despite the fact that the court did not follow legal procedures by informing the practitioners' families of the date and time of the trial, some heard about it and tried to attend, but were prevented from entering. The general public was not allowed to enter.
Even the attorneys hired by the practitioners were not allowed in. Four police officers took away an attorney's tablet computer that he used to record the scene, and twisted his neck and arms. People outside of the courthouse heard the practitioners shouting, “Falun Dafa is good,” but no one could see them.
The court arranged for 20 to 30 hand-picked observers to attend, to give the appearance a regular trial.
Mr. Chen Jianyong , 47, was formerly an engineer for the Baotou City Railway Land Bureau. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1994 and was a volunteer contact person for Falun Gong in Baotou City. Because he refused to give up his belief, he was sentenced to a three-year prison term in 2000, then fired from his government job. He continued to clarify the truth of Falun Gong after his release from the First Prison in Hohhot City.
Mr. Chen was arrested at a road checkpoint on his way home after distributing Falun gong materials in Erdos City in 2006. In a meeting room in the Dongsheng Detention Center, he was tried and sentenced to five years in prison, and brutally tortured for an entire month. During that time, he became extremely thin and was not able to speak or walk. His wife divorced him before his release, and took their child. He now has neither a family nor a place to live.
Ms. Huang Zhaoxia taught school in Xuejiawan Town. She had previously been persecuted. On this occasion she was in Baotou City to do business to support herself.
Ms. Wu Yuehong , in her forties, was from Salaqi Town in Baotou City.
Two cars of police officers surrounded Ms. Huang's home at around 8:00 a.m. on April 1, 2013. The officers entered through a window and broke the door. The police took computers, printers, DVD writers, cash, and other personal belongings. Ms. Wu and Mr. Chen were also arrested along with Ms. Huang, because they were there at the time.
Ms. Xiong Xiaoxia was arrested by more than ten plainclothes police officers who did not identify themselves. They showed no regard for the condition of her broken leg. They dragged her away and shoved her into a car. The nearby vendors were shocked at what they witnessed. They thought Ms. Xiong was being attacked by gangsters. Someone asked what was wrong. A plainclothes officer then showed his ID. The vendors were dumbfounded.
After the four practitioners were arrested, local prosecutors framed them and tried them during the holiday, which had never happened before.
