Urumqi Sisters Facing Illegal Trial

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Bai Yun and her sisiter Ms. Bai Yi, of Urumqi City, Xinjiang, were scheduled to be illegally tried by the Shuimogou District Court on November 13, 2014. They have been held at the Liudao Bay Women's Detention Center since April 28, 2014.

Ms. Bai Yun, 61, was a teacher at Urumqi City No. 34 Elementary School. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 2000. She was arrested on her return home and detained for almost six months. After being released, she was often harassed by police officers and agents from the Residential Committee, school, and Education Bureau.

Ms. Bai Yun was arrested by officers from the Hami Police Station in the spring of 2005, when returning home from Lanzhou City, and held at the Hami Detention Center for 15 days. She was sentenced to a five-year prison term in November 2007, and released in November 2012.

She was arrested in 2013, and taken to the Nanshan Brainwashing Center, where she was held for more than 40 days.

Ms. Bai Yi Persecuted for Several Years

Ms. Bai Yi, 64, a saleswoman, was also arrested alongside her sister Ms. Bai Yun in the spring of 2005, and held for 15 days. She was sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp in the summer of 2005.

She was arrested in the winter of 2006, and detained in a brainwashing center in Miquan City for over 40 days. Her husband, who held an important position in the government, was demoted because of the Chinese Communist regime's guilty by association policy.
