Prosecutor Calls Lawsuit against Practitioner a “Political Issue”

Feb. 11, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Hubei Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Dai Meixia has been persecuted repeatedly since 1999 by local law enforcement in Huangmei County, Hubei Province. To avoid further persecution, her family of three was forced to move to Jiujiang City in Jiangxi Province. However, the police departments of Huangmei County and Jiujiang City collaborated to arrest her. She was incarcerated at the Hubei Province Brainwashing Center in Wuhan City, where she was tortured for eighty-eight days. The Huangmei County Procuratorate has recently filed new charges against her.

A Huangmei County Court sentenced Ms. Dai to a five-year prison term in March 2013. She submitted her appeal at the Huanggang City Intermediate Court which ruled that due to a due process violation, her case would be remanded for a new trial.

The Huangmei County Court then returned the case back to the Huangmei Procuratorate, which has recently filed charges against Ms. Dai once again.

Prosecutor Chen Fanghua told Ms. Dai’s son and her friends a few days ago, “Dai Meixia’s issue is political. She’s anti-Chinese Communist Party (CCP) because she makes banners that say, ‘Heaven Will Destroy the CCP’. That’s anti-CCP. You should talk to her and ‘transform’ her…”

More than 3,000 residents from Hubei Province, where she is from, and Jiangxi Province, where she lives, have, since March 2013, signed and left thumbprints on a petition calling for her immediate release.
