Lawyers Demand Release of Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Cui Hongwen

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Cui Hongwen, 42, from Songyuan City, Jilin Province was illegally arrested because he practices Falun Gong. Mr. Cui's two lawyers met with him on January 13 at the Qianguo County Detention Center.

The next day, on January 14, 2014, two months after the detention of Mr. Cui, his family and lawyers went to the 1 st Team of Qianguo County Police Department Domestic Security Division to deliver a legal opinion. They asked that the charges against Mr. Cui be withdrawn.

Wang Jinglong, head of the 1 st Team, claimed that the case handler was taking a sick leave that day.

Mr. Cui was arrested by Wang Jinglong, his employee Wei (surname), and officers from the Qianguo County Police Department Domestic Security Division around 8 p.m. on December 5, 2013. They handcuffed him and took him to his residence, which they ransacked.

None of these men wore police uniforms, showed their badges, or had a search warrant. They confiscated two computers, a color printer, a laser printer, a DVD burner, and his car, a VW Jetta. They didn't provide a signed list of the confiscated objects.

However, they gave Mr. Cui's family a warrant for his detention from the Qianguo County Police Department and told the family that he was arrested for practicing an illegal religion to obstruct justice.

Mr. Gui was held at the Qianguo County Detention Center that night.

Mr. Cui's family received a call from Wei on December 17, 2013, telling them to retrieve Mr. Cui's personal belongings. Mr. Cui's uncle went on December 18, but came back empty handed.

At the same time, several officers from the Shengli Police Station went to Mr. Cui's apartment for rent and threatened his tenants. Furthermore, officers from the Qianguo County Public Safety Bureau Domestic Security Division confiscated all the objects stored in a garage rented by Mr. Cui. They didn't show a search and seizure warrant and didn't provide a signed list of confiscated items.

The officers have not yet returned the items confiscated during an illegal search of Mr. Cui's residence.
