(Minghui.org) Guards and criminal inmates in Nantong Women’s Prison in Jiangsu Province torture Falun Gong practitioners in brutal attempts to force them to renounce their belief. Practitioners are tortured with sleep deprivation, being handcuffed to beds, and with high voltage electric batons shocks.
Several practitioners are still detained at Nantong Women's Prison, including Ms. Yu Peiling and Ms. Wang Mingxiang.
Ms. Yu Peiling, 50, earned a degree from Beijing Medical University. She worked in Beijing’s Friendship Hospital as a clinical doctor in the pathology department. On July 29, 2012, she and Ms. Wang were both illegally arrested in Donghai County, Jiangsu Province. Donghai County Court tried the women three times. Ms. Yu was sentenced to three years in prison and Ms Wang to four years.
Ms. Li Guohua and Ms. Du Mingliang were also detained in the Nantong Women's Prison.
Ms. Li Guohau is a 40-year-old practitioner from Baoying County. At 3 a.m. on January 27, 2007, she was detained by officers from the Baoying County Police Department. She was given a three-year prison term following a trial in February 2008 and transferred to Nantong Women’s Prison in September 2008.
Ms. Li later recalled, “All the practitioners were forced to take unknown drugs when we got there. The guards told us they would make us take them.”

When Ms. Li first arrived, the guards ordered criminal inmates to assault her. The inmates made her sit on the concrete floor and began to pour cold water over her head. It was the middle of winter.

The inmates also used high voltage batons to shock Ms. Li after they hung her by her handcuffs from a bunk bed. They also took turns watching her around the clock.
To conceal what they are doing, the guards typically torture practitioners behind closed doors. They also suspend the torture during official inspections by higher level authorities. After the inspectors leave, they pick up where they left off.
Puko Prison Mental Hospital in Nanjing City
After being brutally tortured, Ms. Li was sent to Puko Prison Mental Hospital.
Ms. Li recalled, “One day I saw officer Wang Zhihong order another practitioner to praise the Communist Party. When the practitioner refused, Wang began to hit her. She would not let the practitioner sleep and later sent her to the mental hospital.”
After refusing to “transform”, Ms. Du Mingliang, a practitioner from Huaian City, was sent to the mental hospital.
Torture reenactment: Handcuffed to a bed
In the hospital, Ms. Du was tied up in bed, with her arms and thighs constrained by extra ropes to increase the pain. The hospital staff began to give her unknown drugs. After a day and a half, she began to feel dizzy and could not stand. Her systolic blood pressure was only 60, and the doctors could not measure her diastolic pressure level. The hospital decided to stop the drugs.
Ms. Du is in her 40s. She was arrested in 2006 and sentenced to prison. Because she staged a protest by refusing to wear the prison uniform, the guards assigned collaborators to confine her in a room. She was forced to watch video programs that slandered Falun Gong.
Ms. Shi Jianfang, in her 60s, is a practitioner from Qidong City. She was sentenced to five years in prison. One day after prison guards did not allow her to use the toilet for hours, she wet her pants. Guards told criminal inmate Zhang Au to hit her and said she was "an embarrassment."
Before Ms. Shi’s family came to visit, the guards deliberately made her hair a mess. Her husband and son were brought in to see her, and the guards took photos of their meeting. Her husband could not endure the pressure and humiliation, and filed for divorce.
Ms. Shi was forced to carry heavy sandbags to repair muddy roads during thunder storms.
Guards assigned a 20-year-old female criminal to assault Ms. Shi physically and verbally. She also drew insulting signs on the back of Ms. Shi’s shirt.
Ms. Shi was also force-fed unknown drugs.
