(Minghui.org) The Meixian District Court in Meizhou, Guangdong Province conducted an illegal trial of Ms. Li Meiping on February 27, 2014. Ms. Li is a Falun Gong practitioner and former Meijiang District judge. Her attorney from Beijing presented a strong defense demonstrating her innocence, and requested her immediate release.
Several citizens arrived at the courthouse to observe the hearing, but were refused admittance by division head Luo Zhanxiong along with officers Xue Qingwen and Zhong Jiazheng from the Meixian Domestic Security Division. Ms. Li's mother was allowed into the courtroom, however, but all of the other 20 - 30 observers allowed in were neighborhood staff arranged by the authorities. After listening to the attorney's defense, the group exited the courtroom and stated: “Falun Gong does nothing wrong.”
Observers also commented that the prosecutor and judge's responses to the defense were quite weak.
Ms. Li was a former judge at the Meijiang District Court in Meizhou. Due to her refusal to give up practicing Falun Dafa, she was arrested and persecuted several times, including illegal detention in a forced labor camp and prison for a total of seven years.
Ms. Li participated in group exercises at the Meizhou City Cultural Park on January 1, 2000. She was then arrested by Meijiang District police officers and taken to the Qinhuang Detention Center. Later, she was taken to the Sanshui Women's Forced Labor Camp in Guangdong Province, where she was persecuted for three years.
Ms. Li was arrested on November 10, 2004, while distributing Falun Gong flyers in Meizhou. She was then illegally sentenced to five years in prison. During that time, she was severely tortured in the Guangdong Women's Prison. During a “physical examination,” officers injected an unknown poison into her vagina, causing hemorrhaging and halting menstruation for two months. She had difficulty moving for weeks, feeling pain in her upper body from the severe injury. Despite her condition, Ms. Li was not released until August 2009.
Ms. Li was arrested again at her home in Meizhou on November 1, 2012. Most of her personal property was confiscated including Dafa books, a computer and other personal belongings. She was held at the Qinhuang Detention Center in Meizhou, then taken to the provincial brainwashing center in Sanshui, Guangdong Province, where she was confined until January 28.
Ms. Li was arrested yet again on December 11, 2013 for distributing Falun Gong informational materials in Meixian District. She was tailed by authorities, then arrested by Luo Zhanxiong, head of the Meixian Domestic Security Division along with officers Liu Yongxin, Li Lixia, Lin Li and others. Captain Huang Weijun of the Meizhou Domestic Security Division and officer Zhong Jiazheng ransacked her home.
The Domestic Security Division submitted Ms. Li's case to the Mei County District Procuratorate, but it was rejected at the end of December. However, officer Luo Zhanxiong from the Domestic Security Division then fabricated evidence and resubmitted the case. Ms. Li's arrest and subsequent trial were then approved.
Ms. Li was first held at the Fuda Detention Center in Meixian, then transferred to the Xingning City Detention Center.
