Ms. Liu Aihua Illegally Sentenced to Four Years in Prison; Mr. Chen Xiaojun Taken to Brainwashing Center

April 25, 2014

(Minghui.org) After 16 months of illegal detention and forced labor, Ms. Liu Aihua and Mr. Chen Xiaojun were put on trial at the Xiangzhou District Court in Zhuhai City on April 10, 2014.

Ms. Liu was sentenced to four years in prison. After Mr. Chen was exonerated by the court, he was taken to the Guangdong Brainwashing Center by the 610 Office instead of being sent home.

Court Acquittal Leads to Brainwashing

The court ordered Mr. Chen's family to pick him up from the detention center on April 10, 2014. However, deputy director of the Zhuhai 610 Office Chen Haining, and director of the Xiangzhou 610 Office Chen Qi, along with local officials, took Mr. Chen to a brainwashing center instead.

Mr. Chen's lawyer asserted that since his client was acquitted by the court, he should be sent home. Officials from the 610 Office responded with threats: “We'll really have him sentenced if you keep talking this way.”

Previously when Mr. Chen's lawyer and family members inquired about him, the 610 Office lied and said they were not involved with Mr. Chen's case. They instead told his family to seek out the police and the proper judiciary departments.

Earlier Trial

Ms. Liu and Mr. Chen were tried by the same court on June 25, 2013, but their lawyers' strong defense helped prove their innocence.

The practitioners should have been released after the trial, but they were still detained and forced into prison labor. The authorities also refused to issue any official explanation, citing that they were “not in a position to make such a decision.”

The two practitioners were detained at the Zhuhai No. 1 Detention Center for 16 months and forced to do prison labor, which included making plastic flowers from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day.

Repeated Persecution

This is the eighth time that Ms. Liu has been arrested. While at the Zhuhai No. 1 Detention Center, she was forced to work for lengthy periods every day in a dark room. She developed festering sores on her buttocks, and her blood pressure rose to 190 mm hg. Because of her severe condition, her family applied for medical parole, but the authorities rejected the application. “We are not in a position to make such a decision,” they said. “And we don't have the authority to release her on bail.”

Other excuses included the likes of: “You've got to talk to those handling her case,” and “We need to ask our superiors.”

Instead of releasing Ms. Liu, the head of the detention center intensified the brainwashing to force her to “transform.”

An Outstanding Employee

Mr. Chen, a graduate from Beijing University of Science and Technology, is an employee with Zhuhai Gree Group Corp. Like Ms. Liu, he has also undergone repeated persecution since 1999. He was illegally arrested and sentenced to seven years in prison in 2000. After his release, Mr. Chen returned to work for Zhuhai Gree. Despite the mistreatment, Mr. Chen demonstrated high standards at work and solid technical skills. Under his leadership, his team obtained multiple patents for the company.

When Mr. Chen was last taken away in November 2012, his son was not even one year old. His son is now two years old.
