(Minghui.org) Ms. Yu Guifang from Weifang City, along with several other Falun Gong practitioners, were arrested in a practitioner's home in Jinan City on July 4, 2014, by the Tianqiao District Police Department.
The police later arrested Ms. Yu's daughter, Ms. Chen Bingnan, and Ms. Chen's husband, Mr. Yang Feng, in Weifang City, and Mr. Yang's mother in Jinan City. Their homes were ransacked.
Ms. Yu and her family members are being held in Zhonggong Addiction Treatment Center (the former Zhonggong Forced Labor Camp) in Jinan City.
Ms. Yu Guigang, 67, was a deputy at the Weifang City Legal Bureau. When the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, she and her family were targeted because of her status. She had to leave home to avoid being persecuted. Her husband, Mr. Chen Maolin, died two years ago after enduring intense, long term stress as a result of the persecution.
Ms. Yu's daughter, Ms. Chen Bingnan, was fired from her job when the 610 Office pressured her employer. The 610 Office also pressured her to divorce her husband, Mr. Yang Feng, but she refused.
Mr. Yang Feng was fired in 1999, and was under house arrest for a week at his work unit. Xiao Peng, one of his work unit's leaders, monitored him. Even though Mr. Yang's mother was not a practitioner, she was detained in the brainwashing center for over a month, while her son was there. She had a stroke shortly after being released.
Ms. Yu's granddaughter, Shuangshuang, was only three years old when her parents were arrested. When she was eight, she was arrested with her mother, and they were both detained in the detention center. She is now 15, and both her parents and her grandmother have been arrested again.
Mr. Yang Feng was arrested on August 5, 2003, by two plainclothes officers, and detained in Jianxin Police Station. They cuffed him to a metal chair and interrogated him overnight.
His belongings, valued at 12,000 yuan, were confiscated. Two days later, section head Wang and several other officers from the Weifang City Police Department escorted Mr. Yang to Weifang City. He was taken to a brainwashing center in the middle of the night.
Three days later, his mother came to bring him some daily necessities. Fu Jinbing from the brainwashing center wanted her to help them brainwash her son. Mr. Yang's mother said she had to take care of her three-year-old granddaughter Shuangshuang.
When she was not allowed to go home to make arrangements, she called the emergency police number for help.
The police came, but they helped the other side, and the elderly lady was taken to the brainwashing center.
Fu Jinbing later told Mr. Yang's mother, “Don't you know what '110' is for? '110' is to help us to deal with Falun Gong.”
The evildoers pressured Mr. Yang's mother and forced her and her son to watch the video programs that slandered Falun Gong. At one point the mother's blood pressure rose to 220. They told her, “No big deal,” and gave her a few pills to lower it. Nothing else was done.
The elderly lady kept asking to go home but was not allowed.
Mr. Yang's mother was seized not only to torment him, in attempts to force him to give up his belief, but also to trap his wife, Ms. Chen Bingnan, and his mother-in-law, Ms. Yu Guifang. If they came to deliver anything for him, they would be detained and subjected to brainwashing.
Such tricks have been used before. When the former head of the security sector at Mu School, Weifang City, was detained in the brainwashing center, his wife (also a Falun Gong practitioner) went to visit him. She was also detained in the brainwashing center.
Mr. Yang Feng escaped from the brainwashing center in the early morning hours of August 28, 2003.
His successful escape angered the brainwashing center officials. They didn't release his mother until September 11. Before she was released, she was forced to sign a guarantee to agree to assist them in arresting her son.
Over a month in the brainwashing center was hard on the elderly lady's health. Formerly very healthy, she became pale, thin, and distraught. Just a few days after her release, she got sick and her blood pressure rose. She was taken to the hospital with a stroke. Even though quick treatment saved her life, the medical costs adversely affected the family's financial situation.
After Mr. Yang escaped from the brainwashing center, his mother was pressured to call his wife, Ms. Chen Bingnan. When Ms. Chen answered, Fu Jinbin from the brainwashing center immediately took over and ordered her to report to the brainwashing center. Ms. Chen refused.
Xu Yujun and Kuan Jinhui from Weifang City 610 Office, and Fu Jinbin from the brainwashing center went to Ms. Chen Bingnan's job–Weifang City Construction Bank–and told the bank to send Ms. Chen to the brainwashing center.
They said that if Ms. Chen met the following four conditions, she would not need to stay in the brainwashing center:
1. Promise to give up Falun Gong2. Criticize and expose her mother Yu Kuifang3. Criticize and expose her husband Yang Feng4. Write a guarantee statement renouncing Falun Gong
They threatened Ms. Chen, “As long as you remain married to Yang Feng, your name will not be cleared.”
Ms. Chen refused to divorce her husband despite their threats. Because of her outstanding job performance, her supervisors didn't send her to the brainwashing center.
However, the 610 Office sent agents to the bank to hold a special brainwashing session just for Ms. Chen. They stayed and worked inside the bank. Given such pressure, the bank leaders finally gave in and terminated Ms. Chen.
At that time, Ms. Chen was under great stress at work and with her family. She was about to lose her job. Her mother-in-law was in the hospital, which cost more than 1,000 yuan. Her young daughter suddenly developed asthma and had to go to the hospital as well, which cost more than 800 yuan.
While Ms. Chen was being persecuted, her mother, Ms. Yu Guifang, was also under pressure from the 610 Office. The mother and daughter had to leave home. They moved repeatedly for more than three months. During that time, three-year-old Shuangshuang was under the care of her grandmother, Mr. Yang's mother, who was still recovering from her own health problem.
After Mr. Yang Feng escaped from the brainwashing center in 2003, the officers from Weifang Security Division and Guiwen District Security Division constantly harassed his family, his wife Ms. Chen Bingnan, his mother-in-law Ms. Yu Guifang, his father Mr. Chen Maolin, and his mother.
On the morning of July 9, 2008, Huang Weilian and more than ten other officers from Weifang Police Department broke into the apartment where Ms. Yu Guifang and Chen Bingnan were staying. They entered through a window and ransacked the place, taking many things.
At that time, Ms. Yu Guifang's husband, Mr. Chen Maolin, was visiting them. He was so traumatized that he passed out and had to be taken to a hospital.
After Ms. Yu Guifang and her daughter, Ms. Chen Bingnan, had been in the detention center for more than 20 days, they were sentenced to one year of forced labor and sent to Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in Shandong Province.
Ms. Yu Guifang was rejected by the labor camp because of her high blood pressure. She was later sent to the hospital under around the clock surveillance.
Ms. Chen served one year in Wangcun Forced Labor Camp.
Ms. Yu Guifang's husband, Mr. Chen Maolin, was the first person in the family to practice Falun Gong. He used to have many ailments, including heart problems and high blood pressure, and usually had to be hospitalized twice a year. He nearly died twice.
The family heard about Falun Gong in 1997. Not long after he began practicing, Mr. Chen's health improved. He also became more tolerant and more thoughtful of others. Ms. Yu Guifang started practicing Falun Gong after witnessing her husband's change.
Ms. Yu became more calm and patient after she starting practicing Falun Gong, and was able to listen to others' points of view and deal with problems. Those who knew her were amazed by her positive changes.
Their daughter, Ms. Chen Bingnan, started practicing Falun Gong as well. She married Mr. Yang Feng, another practitioner, in 1998. They had a daughter, Shuangshuang, a year later.
Mr. Yang Feng had high moral standards. He graduated from the Shandong Information Engineering College and became a teacher at that college. He wrote and compiled two computer science textbooks, which were used in the college. He was recognized as an “outstanding teacher” several times.
He worked and studied so hard that his health suffered. He was always cold, but doctors were unable to diagnose him. In 1997, he read Zhuan Falun and started practicing Falun Gong. He became relaxed and his discomfort disappeared.
When the CCP began persecuting Falun Gong in July 1999, the calm and peaceful lives of nearly a hundred million Falun Gong practitioners came to an end.
