Snapshot of Falun Gong Practitioners Whose Copies of Lawsuits Against Jiang Zemin Were Received by Minghui on September 21, 2015

(Minghui.org) Many Falun Gong practitioners are now exercising their legal right to sue Jiang Zemin for launching the persecution of Falun Gong and causing them great harm and tremendous suffering during the past 16 years. The momentum of this new wave of lawsuits against the former Chinese dictator is on the rise.

The Minghui website receives copies of criminal complaints against Jiang from many practitioners daily. In this report, we present a snapshot of some of the practitioners whose copies of lawsuits were received by Minghui on September 21, 2015.

These lawsuits are mailed to the Supreme People's Court and Supreme People's Procuratorate, which are required to process all criminal complaints filed by citizens, as of a recent ruling by the Supreme People's Court.

Brief Excerpts from Four Legal Complaints

Ms. Zhang Shoufeng, 67, former secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Dongfeng Automobile Company, was illegally detained many times and sentenced to five years in prison, where she was mistreated and tortured. Her family filed a criminal complaint against Jiang on her behalf.

Mr. Geng Dexin, a former captain in the armed police force, was forced to leave the service in 1999 for practicing Falun Gong. He was illegally arrested and detained many times, and was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2003. He was severely tortured which included violent beatings, sleep deprivation, being hung up for long periods of time, and force-feeding.

Mr. Li Yeming, 46, former engineer at the Design Institute of Shengli Oil Field , was illegally arrested and detained numerous times. He was sent to Xuchang Forced Labor Camp in Henan, where he was tortured by being hung up in the air, deprived of sleep, force-fed and repeatedly beaten. He nearly died from torture.

Mr. Lin Hongbin, 42, an ex-serviceman from the armed police, was illegally arrested, detained, and sentenced to six years in prison. He was tortured, beaten, shocked with electric batons, stripped and humiliated and forced to do hard labor. His family was also constantly harassed by police.

1. Ms. Zhang Shoufeng (张守凤)

Key Facts

Ms. Zhang Shoufeng is 67 years old. Her son filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin for the persecution that she suffered for practicing Falun Gong.

“My mom was interrogated at the Liaison Office of Shiyan City in Beijing in mid-December 2000 when she went to appeal for Falun Gong. She was kicked with leather boots and violently beaten. She was cuffed together with another practitioner and they were forced to run 550 yards in cold weather. The cuffs cut into her flesh. Both of her legs turned black and blue and became badly swollen from the beatings,” her son wrote in the complaint.

“My mom was detained in a brainwashing center run by Dongyue Police Station from January 21 to June 13, 2001. Once she was chained to the ground for a whole day and whole night.

“She was deprived of sleep for six days and five nights straight at the Dongyue Police Station until she became mentally confused and could hardly walk,” he wrote.

Ms. Zhang was later sentenced to five years in prison, where she was abused and forced to do intensive labor.

2. Mr. Geng Dexin (耿德新)

Key Facts

Mr. Geng Dexin is a former captain in the armed police force. He was forced to leave the service in 1999 for practicing Falun Gong. He was illegally arrested and detained many times, and was sentenced to nine years of prison in 2003.

“I was illegally arrested on a train by plainclothes police on September 6, 2002. They took away my bank card which had over 7,000 yuan in the account, my mobile phone and other personal belongings. I was taken to the Miyi County Detention Center and badly beaten. I went on a hunger strike, but was brutally force-fed,” Mr. Geng wrote in his complaint.

Mr. Geng was later taken to a secret place for more torture and interrogation. He was beaten and hung up for long periods of time.

Later, Mr. Geng was sentenced to nine years in prison. At Wumanping Prison where he was taken, Falun Gong practitioners were often beaten and shocked with electric batons. Once Mr. Geng was locked in solitary confinement for 17 days. He was forced to sit on a small stool for 19 hours during the day and was only allowed four hours of sleep at night. His hair turned gray and all his teeth became loose.

3. Mr. Li Yeming (李业明)

Key Facts

Mr. Li Yeming is a 46 year-old engineer from the Design Institute of Shengli Oilfields in Shandong. He was arrested many times and suffered severe persecution due to his belief in Falun Gong.

“In Xuchang Forced Labor Camp in Henan Province, I was forced to do intensive labor every day and deprived of sleep at night. I was tortured by many means. The cruelest was 'tying up.' I was tied up tightly and hung up in the air,” Mr. Li wrote in his complaint.

In April 2005 the police from Petroleum University and Shengli Oilfield arrested Mr. Li again after cutting off the water and electricity supply to his house for three days. He was taken to Shengli Oilfield Detention Center and tortured.

The police also unlawfully confiscated personal belongings including a computer, two printers, a scanner, two mobile phones, and a digital camera, causing his family a loss of nearly 30,000 yuan.

“At the detention center, the police had criminal inmates beat me. They put me in handcuffs and shackles and chained me in an awkward position so that I could not straighten my back. I went on a hunger strike to protest the mistreatment. The police then ordered inmates to force-feed me. I was pushed to the floor and held down by four or five inmates. One of them forced my mouth open, while another one cut off the bottom of a mineral water bottle and forced it into my mouth as a funnel. They then force-fed me with corn porridge mixed with condensed salt water. I almost died from suffocation,” Mr. Li wrote in his complaint.

4. Mr. Lin Hongbin (林鸿滨)

Mr. Lin Hongbin, 42, is an ex-serviceman. Since the persecution started on July 20, 1999, his family has suffered a lot. Mr. Lin, his wife Chen Xiao, and mother-in-law Tan Zezhen have been arrested many times. Chen Xiao's grandmother passed away due to the constant stress of threats and harassment by the police. Their home had been searched eight times. Mr. Lin's son was separated from his father when he was one year old, and separated from his mother when he was about two years old. Since July 20, 1999, the family has been able to stay together for about only three months.

Mr. Lin went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in October 1999. He was arrested and brought back to Beihai in Guangxi. Police officer Chen Zongyao stole 3,800 yuan from him and a mobile phone worth 2,000 yuan. Mr. Lin was then given two years of forced labor at Nanning No. 1 Men's Forced Labor Camp, where he was subjected to intensive forced labor.

After his release, in the early morning of October 16, 2002, while Mr. Lin was making breakfast for his one-year-old son, police broke into his parents-in-law's house and dragged him away. His wife tried to stop the police, but they beat her and fractured her left arm. A few months later, Mr. Lin was sentenced to six years in prison.

“I suffered all kinds of physical punishment and mental torture at Litang Prison in Binyang between August 2003 and August 2007. Once, because I did the Falun Gong exercises, police officer Zhang Yuqiang told seven or eight criminal inmates to hold me down on the floor and shocked me with electric batons for over two hours. They then cuffed me to an iron window for long periods of time. My hands and feet became badly swollen. I was not allowed to sleep or wash myself for fifteen days straight. They also forced me to squat under the scorching sun all day long. When I refused to do so, I was beaten. The police also ordered criminal inmates to strip me naked to humiliate me,” Mr. Lin wrote in his complaint.

During the persecution, Mr. Lin's home was searched and ransacked nearly twenty times, their home phone is still being tapped at this time and his family is followed and monitored by police.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
