Practitioners Illegally Detained for Four Months and Threatened With Four-Year Sentences

Feb. 1, 2015 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners Ms. He Xiuxiang and Ms. Wang Xiuying have been illegally detained at the Pudong Detention Center for four months, and it is feared that they are being mistreated. Police have threatened their families, “They should be given sentences of at least four years.”

Ms. He and Ms. Wang are from Jimo City in Shandong Province. They went to Qianjin Village in Yifeng Town on September 12, 2014, to tell to people about Falun Gong and that people who follow the practice are being persecuted. They were arrested by officers from the Pudong Police Station in Jimo City.

Ms. He's husband and parents went to the Pudong Police Station and demanded her release on January 12, 2015, but Zhao Zhiqiang, the director, and Ji Jiangtao, the assistant director, refused to meet with them. They instead spoke with them by telephone, refused take any responsibility for Ms. He's case, made up excuses, and refused to release her.

Ms. He's family returned to the police station on January 17, 2015. Ji informed them by phone that Ms. He's case had already been delivered to the Procuratorate (that acts as the role of the prosecutor in China), and that she was being held at the Pudong Detention Center.

Ms. He's family went to the Pudong Police Station on the morning of January 22, 2015, and demanded to see her arrest warrant. Ji lied to them and said, “The arrest warrant is at the Procuratorate.” He wouldn't reveal who was handling the case, or the case manager's phone number.

Ms. He's family eventually found out that Zhao Liangzhou was the public prosecutor. Zhao said, “The arrest warrant is at the police station. I only have a duplicate copy.” The family returned to the Pudong Police Station that same afternoon and repeated what Prosecutor Zhao had said. Only then did Ji reluctantly give it to them.

Ms. He's case has been transferred to the Procuratorate. Her family called the section chief on January 23, 2015, and told her, “Falun Gong hasn't violated any legal statutes. It is you who are carrying out unlawful acts, and you will have to bear legal responsibility.” She seemed alarmed and said, “Don't get agitated, you can hire an attorney to review the documents. There are so many cases, I'm not clear about the details of this one. Please contact Zhao Liangzhou.”

History of Ms. Wang's Illnesses

Ms. Wang is from Xiaodian Village in Changzhi Town. She had serious illnesses before she practiced Falun Gong, including neurosis, and her condition was deteriorating. She went to Beijing Hospital but they couldn't help her. By 2006, she could no longer take care of herself. As she was contemplating the loss of her life, a friend visited her and said, “Only Falun Gong can help you now, why don't you give it a try!” Her illnesses disappeared afterwards.

Ms. Wang was deeply grateful to Falun Gong for giving her a new life, and wanted to share her story with others. She was deeply disturbed by the false propaganda spread by the Chinese Communist Party and wanted to clear Falun Gong's name. Under these circumstances she has been repeatedly persecuted.
