67-Year-Old Sues Former Dictator for Torture and Force-Feeding While He Was Detained for Practicing Falun Gong

June 29, 2015

(Minghui.org) A former Grain Bureau employee who was brutally force-fed and tortured by police for refusing to renounce Falun Gong is initiating legal action against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin, who ordered the nationwide persecution campaign sixteen years ago.

Shortly after Jiang launched the persecution, Mr. Bian Hongxiang was detained for more than seven months before being sent to a forced labor camp for two years. When guards were unsuccessful in “transforming” him, or forcing him to renounce Falun Gong, he was transferred to two other labor camps.

Force-Fed Water, Deprived of Sleep, and Suffocated with Plastic Bags

Mr. Bian was arrested by local police on March 5, 2005 and force-fed water on three consecutive days. In his struggle, he suffered eight broken teeth, coughed up mouthfuls of blood from continuously choking on water, and had bloody diarrhea.

Officers then hung him up such that the entire weight of his body was supported by his wrists, causing the handcuffs to cut into his flesh.

Mr. Bian was also deprived of sleep for eight days and beaten whenever he closed his eyes, which left him with two broken ribs.

He almost suffocated when officers put two layers of plastic bags on his head and throttled his neck.

Mr. Bian was finally released when he fell into critical condition. He continued to cough up blood for three to four years.

Criminal Complaint

In June 2015, Mr. Bian filed his criminal complaint with the Supreme People's Procuratorate, seeking to bring the former dictator to justice for ordering and leading the persecution of Falun Gong.

Mr. Bian now struggles to get by. He has lost the ability to work as a result of the torture, his personal funds were seized by police, and his pension is being withheld by his workplace.

In addition, Mr. Bian's wife was beaten to death by police, also for practicing Falun Gong.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
