(Minghui.org) “We want to be first on the waiting list to hire you. You can come to work with us any time,” said a former work acquaintance who knew about my work ethic and personality. She refused to discriminate against me because I'm a Falun Gong practitioner. Instead, she appreciated how Falun Gong had helped to make me a better person and more valuable employee. In the network of project cost consultants I was quite well-known. It was also well known that I practiced Falun Gong. All my customers were fully aware that I would never accept a bribe, and in today's China, that is a very rare thing.
After the persecution of Falun Gong started in 1999, I went to Beijing to protest. I was arrested, sentenced to forced labor and fired from my job. Upon my release I was hired by another company. I retired in 2013, after 10 years with the firm. Within a year the company asked me to return to work and train new employees.
After that a supervisor from a large provincial level consulting company called and asked me to stop by her office. We have known each other for quite some time and I had talked to her about Falun Gong and the persecution.
“I didn't know that you retired,” she said upon meeting me. “Once I knew, it was not easy to get ahold of you. Had I known that you retired in 2013, I would have hired you immediately.”
They were looking for someone to train their new employees who had just graduated from school. The position has been open for a while, because whoever interviewed for this job just did not seem to be the right person.
“I would feel much more comfortable if it was you who took the job.” she said. “Your professional skills and work ethics are well recognized by people in our industry. We need someone like you to guide the new staff so that they can learn to be hard-working, responsible and cautious like you. Our team could certainly benefit from that.”
She offered me twice my current salary. I thanked her and said that I was just doing my job.
“My company needs me now,” I said, “and I can't bring myself to tell my boss that I want to resign. Perhaps there is an opportunity in the future when we can re-open the matter. I will be more than willing to consider it.”
Actually, she gave me an open job offer that would remain open should I decide to leave my present job.
Despite the persecution, every Falun Gong practitioner continues to follow the principles taught by Mr. Li, the founder of Falun Gong. Mr. Li said, “A cultivator must be a good person wherever he or she is.” (“Teaching the Fa at the Conference in Houston”)
Practitioners have shown the Chinese people through their behavior and actions that Falun Gong is a good practice. More and more people have heard the facts about the persecution and believe that practitioners are good honest hard-working people.
