Compassion Unlocks the Heart of Wayward Minds

July 9, 2015 |   By Yuan Li, a practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) Today I once again met an “unreasonable” Chinese person on a phone call. This time was different, however, because I remained compassionate, and practiced forbearance in talking with him.

“Don't talk to me—I urgently need money,” he said. “If you want to talk to me, give me money first.”

“Sir, we're talking about something more important than money,” I told him. “This relates to your future well-being, something that comes before earning money.” I was patient as I spoke, and I did not hold any disdain toward him. I was merciful and had pity for him as a being who lives only for money.

I continued, and spoke about all the natural and man-made disasters now occurring in China. In regards to corrupt Chinese politicians, I asked him, “Where do you think their money is from? It's all from us Chinese people.”

He seemed to agree with me.

So I talked about the heavenly principle that dictates how being good brings about blessings, while committing evil meets with retribution. “The evil CCP (Chinese Communist Party) is committing the worst crimes in the history of this Earth,” I said. “They're even harvesting organs from living Falun Dafa practitioners for profit. Everyone will be held accountable for what they've done.”

He asked me if I was a Falun Dafa practitioner. I told him I was. “Falun Dafa is embraced in more than 100 countries around the world,” I said. “It's a great practice for mind and body.”

After listening to me, this person still only had one thing on his mind. “I know the CCP isn't good,” he said. “But will I get money by quitting it? Give me money and I'll quit.”

I said to him, “You know the CCP is terrible. Why not quit to ensure your safety? If you don't declare your withdrawal, then you will be counted as a part of it. When the CCP finally meets its retribution, you will go down with it. It's not worth it!”

“Will quitting allow me to get rich?” he asked. “Will I be safe just by remembering Dafa is good?” This time, he was a bit softer when asking.

I laughed and said, “Sir, let me tell you a story. There was once a man who got swept away by a flood. But when he saw a long piece of wood float by, he ignored it, thinking that since he was a Buddhist, the Buddha would help him.

“Then a boat then came his way, and the people on the boat tried to rescue him. But he looked at their shabby boat and refused their help, still thinking the Buddha would help him. He finally drowned.

“After he died he met the Buddha and asked, 'Every day I prayed to you, but I ended up drowning. Why didn't you help me?'

“The Buddha answered, 'I first gave you a long piece of wood, and I then sent a boat to help you. But you still refused to be helped!'”

I tried to highlight the comparison for him. “I reckon you're a good person,” I said. “Perhaps this phone call has been arranged by the Buddha to save you!” He chuckled and agreed to quit the CCP.

I added that Falun Dafa practitioners were indeed saving people. “If you sincerely recite 'Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,' you will be better off,” I said. “I wish you peace and happiness.”

Before saying goodbye, he expressed his heartfelt appreciation many times. He had a complete change in attitude.

I have encountered people like this for quite some time, but not until today did I manage to handle it well. Master has taught us to treat others with compassion, and this time I did. I feel that in doing so, it is a great chance to validate Dafa.

With kindness, and by paying attention to one's tone of voice, we can help people position themselves for the future.

I hope my experience is of benefit to other practitioners.
