Veteran Files Complaint Against Former Chinese Dictator for Ten Years of Unjust Imprisonment

(Minghui.org) An army veteran from Shanxi Province has filed a criminal complaint against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong, which led to his being subjected to a total of ten years of unjust imprisonment.

Mr. Sun Shuangwen, 55, began practicing Falun Gong in June 1993. Although he benefited greatly from the practice, he and his family have been tormented by the nationwide persecution since its inception in July 1999. It was Jiang Zemin, then-leader of the Chinese Communist Party, who overrode other Politburo standing committee members, and launched the violent suppression of the peaceful cultivation practice.

Over the course of the 16-year persecution, Mr. Sun was arrested many times, his home was ransacked and he was held in labor camps, detention centers, and prisons. He suffered abuse and torture at the hands of prison guards and inmates. His mother became very ill and died in 2000 upon learning that her son had been sent to a labor camp. In 2006 Mr. Sun was forced to become homeless to avoid being arrested again. He had to move from place to place, and could not contact his family. Out of desperation and under the difficulties of raising their son alone, his wife tried to commit suicide during this time.

In his official complaint, Mr. Sun accuses Jiang of depriving citizens of their personal belief, deprivation of liberty, searches without warrant, libel, the crime of inflicting deliberate humiliation, abuse of power, assault, and maltreatment of people who are detained. He filed his criminal complaint with the Supreme People's Procuratorate, requesting that this legal body prosecute Jiang.

In his complaint, Mr. Sun recalled a heartbreaking family visitation around 2008, when he was locked up in Jinzhong Prison in Shanxi Province:

“I just walked into the visitation room and heard a woman crying. She sounded like my wife. She had come in in tears. Our son had forgotten to bring his ID. Therefore, he was not allowed to see his father. She begged the police, but to no avail.

“She then told me to just look at our son through the glass window. My son was still so little at the time, I could only see his hair. So he jumped up so I could see his young face for a short few seconds.

“My heart was wrenched each time he jumped. I was so heartbroken and exhausted after the half-hour visit.”

In his legal complaint Mr. Sun outlines all the home ransackings, illegal sentences, and imprisonment he suffered over the 16 years of brutal persecution. He also documents his family's agony. The excerpt below details a particularly harrowing experience in detention.

“I was sent to Jinzhong Prison in Shanxi Province in September 2003. I appealed my sentence many times, but my appeals were withheld by the prison, and never reached the court. I was often locked up in solitary confinement and forced to do slave labor.

“In May 2004, I reasoned with officer Wang Wenzhou (王文洲) about the wrongness of torturing Falun Gong practitioners. He became angry and ordered inmates to drag me to a small cell. Three ferocious inmates surrounded me, each with a long wooden board like a paddle. They beat me severely, and I almost lost consciousness. Then they put metal chains weighing over 30 pounds (about 15 kg) on me, and threw me into solitary confinement.”
