March in Chicago's Chinatown Supports Legal Efforts in China for Freedom of Belief

Aug. 3, 2015 |   By a Falun Gong practitioner in Chicago

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners from the mid-USA states held a march in Chicago's Chinatown on August 1, 2015 to support the rise of legal efforts in China against the main perpetrator of the persecution, Jiang Zemin.

As of July 30, 2015, over 120,000 Falun Gong practitioners, families, and friends have filed criminal complaints against Jiang, the then-leader of the Chinese Communist Party, who launched the persecution in July 1999.

Respect and Discipline Noted

John H. White, photojournalist and Pulitzer Prize recipient, praised the respect and discipline that Falun Gong practitioners projected in their march and protests that he saw in Chicago. He happened to be in Chinatown on August 1.

He complimented the uplifting spirit of practitioners and the power of silence. Even though practitioners were silent in their events, people heard their voices, he said, adding that although many didn't say anything, they are supportive of the practitioners.

Chinese Support Legal Efforts Against Jiang

Ms. Xu came from China three months ago. She said, “Every time I saw Falun Gong events, I was brought to tears.” She asked for a copy of informational material when she came across the march on Wentworth Avenue.

“I have been reading the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party almost every day. The book is so well written! Just look at what has the Party driven China into!” she added. “Jiang Zemin should have been prosecuted a long time ago! Not just him, but all the main perpetrators in the persecution of Falun Gong should be brought to justice.”

She hugged the Falun Gong practitioner who gave her the materials and said farewell as the procession continued down the street.

The current legal efforts in China had the support of locals. A Chinese restaurant owner came out to the street to watch the march and called his friend, “Falun Gong has sued Jiang Zemin! There's also a big march.”

A Chinatown resident expressed her opinion, “No one on this planet is more evil than the Party.” She has also heard about the waves of lawsuits against Jiang, “Even lawyers in France are supportive of suing Jiang. He should be tried as soon as possible.”

“Everyone Should Stand with Falun Gong”

Thomas Wong, a restauranteur in Chinatown, was shocked to learn about forced organ harvesting in China. Upon hearing explanations from Falun Gong practitioners about the short wait time for matched organs in China and the results of the independent investigations led by renowned human rights lawyers David Matas and David Kilgour, and journalist Ethan Gutmann, he gasped, “That is simply too brutal!”

A man from Vietnam commented, “In Vietnam, we have even heard about the persecution of Falun Gong in China. Killing practitioners for their organs is too evil. Everything the Party says are lies. Everyone should stand with Falun Gong.”
