(Minghui.org) A medical doctor sued former Chinese president Jiang Zemin for the persecution suffered by his family because of their belief in Falun Gong.
Mr. Hou Youhu is a 52-year-old doctor from Gansu Province. His sister Ms. Hou Youfang died in a labor camp in 2002. Mr. Hou himself was detained for two years. His other sister, Ms. Hou Youxiang, was arrested four times and detained in a labor camp for two years between 2000 and 2002. The criminal complaint was filed on August 25, 2015.
Before the Chinese authorities started to persecute Falun Gong, Ms. Hou Youfang was an outstanding high school teacher. However, after she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in February 2000, she was no longer allowed to teach. The school forced her to do heavy labor, with only subsistence wages of 200 yuan per month. Her husband was forced by the authorities to divorce her.
She was arrested four times for her belief and ultimately given two years of forced labor re-education in August 2001. During detention, she was tortured in multiple ways, including the tiger bench. Guards hung her up by her handcuffs and beat her. She died in the labor camp on November 29, 2002. Before she died, her arm was broken, and her ribs and pelvis had comminuted fractures.
Mr. Hou Youhu was arrested in February 2007 because he distributed materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. Police locked him inside a small iron cage, in a position where he could neither stand nor squat. They then interrogated him for hours, trying to find out information about other Falun Gong practitioners.
In a detention center, Mr. Hou was forced to make large quantities of match boxes for more than twenty days before he was sent to two years of forced labor re-education.
In the Gansu Province Labor Camp, Mr. Hou was repeatedly beaten or forced to stand for long hours. Guards tried to brainwash him and pressured him to write statements giving up his belief.
After Mr. Hou returned home, the authorities continued to harass him. He was constantly required to report to the police about his activities. His bicycle was confiscated. The local government shut down his clinic after he was arrested. After Mr. Hou was released from the labor camp, the local health department refused to renew his medical license. Mr. Hou had to abandon his career as a doctor.
Another sister of Mr. Hou, Ms. Hou Youxiang, was arrested four times for her belief. She was taken to forced labor re-education for two years between 2000 and 2002. In addition to intensive forced labor, Hou Youxiang went through severe torture. She was not allowed to sleep for nine consecutive days. At the same time, guards ordered inmates to hit her in the head, pinch her fingers with needles, and step on her fingers. She was hung up with her hands cuffed behind her back, and forced to watch videos slandering Falun Gong.
After she returned home, local police still visited her from time to time, pressuring her to sign statements giving up her belief.
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
