Three Tried in Shandong Province for Practicing Falun Gong

Oct. 14, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners Wang Liang and Fang Kuanfeng from Zhangdian District, Zibo City, Shandong Province, were tried by the Zhangdian District Court on September 20, 2016.

Mr. Huang Futang was tried in the morning on the same day. More details about the trial are unknown.

Mr. Li Shaoqin's trial was postponed, as his attorney was informed only one day in advance, in violation of legal requirements.

Mr. Wang's Attorney Denied Entry to Hearing

Mr. Wang Liang's trial was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on September 20. Mr. Wang's mother was not notified; she was told about the trial around noon that day by other villagers. She called Judge Guo Jian, who claimed that he did not know Mr. Wang's mother or the telephone numbers of the villagers.

Mr. Wang's mother was denied entry on arrival at the court, as she had not applied for an audit permit.

Mr. Wang questioned the judge why the attorney he hired did not appear. Judge Guo claimed that he had not received the required documents from the attorney. However, Guo had refused to accept the documents from the attorney in Beijing.

Mr. Wang's family hired another attorney, who rushed to the court but was denied entry because the trial was already in session and could not be interrupted.

The judge repeatedly interrupted Mr. Wang's testimony. The hearing lasted 20 minutes.

Mr. Wang was immediately taken away by police. Mr. Wang's mother accused the judge of holding an illegal trial against her son without the presence of any attorneys or family members.

Mr. Fang Kuanfeng Pleads Not Guilty

Mr. Fang Kuanfeng was tried at 3:00 p.m. His attorneys, Lan Zhixue and Zhang Chuanli from Beijing, pleaded not guilty on his behalf.

During cross-examination, Zhang argued that the 24 pieces of prosecution evidence, including his client's diary, were not admissible.

The attorney also reprimanded the prosecutor for accusing Mr. Fang of “holding a bad attitude” because he pleaded not guilty.

Mr. Fang described being arrested, made to do forced labor, beaten, and shocked by electric batons over the past 17 years–all for refusing to renounce Falun Gong.
