(Minghui.org) A woman filed a criminal complaint last June against former Chinese Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin for the disappearance of her husband and her mental and financial suffering. Both of them practice Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline persecuted in China since 1999 under the order of Jiang.
Mr. Cheng Fengxiang from Handan City, Hebei Province, tapped into local TV networks on January 19, 2004. He broadcast videos to counter the Chinese regime's hate propaganda against Falun Gong on state-controlled media and to raise awareness of the regime's brutal treatment of practitioners. He was arrested nine days later and relentlessly tortured in the basement of a police department.
Officers pulled his arms far apart with handcuffs on each wrist. As a result, his nerves and tendons were damaged, and his arms were permanently disabled. They beat the soles of his feet with hard objects, which caused excruciating pain. His mouth was pried open, and he was force-fed unknown drugs. Officers burned his face with light bulbs and poured boiling water on his head.
Mr. Cheng was also forced to lay on his stomach while a wooden rod was placed across his lower legs, with two men standing on each end. This torture was meant to damage his lower legs and knees.
Mr. Cheng was beaten numerous times. Officers cuffed his hands to the high and low ends of a metal fence, which forced him to lean against the fence in a contorted position. Placing a wooded stick against his chest, officers hit him from the back, bashing his chest into the rod. He was kept awake for 14 consecutive days with constant beatings and torture. His ribs were broken, and he lost 30 pounds.
By fall 2004 Mr. Cheng began to show signs of heart problems, kidney failure, and low blood sugar. His arms and legs were so damaged that he could not walk or care for himself. After he was transferred to a forced labor camp, the police told his family that he had escaped and was missing. His family suspected that he either died or was so badly mutilated that the camp officials did not want the family to visit him.
Twelve years later, Mr. Cheng's whereabouts are still unknown.
Mr. Cheng's family were not spared of the terrors and pain under the persecution. His wife, Ms. Gong Shuangqin, was incarcerated for eight months for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. Twenty of his family members were constantly harassed by the authorities. The persecution forced their family's factory, restaurant, and store into bankruptcy.
The police tried to arrest Mr. Cheng's two teenage sons. Officers arrested his two brothers and several relatives, who did not practice Falun Gong, and detained them for months. The police ransacked their homes, confiscated their personal belongings, and extorted large amounts of money from them. Ms. Gong's mother succumbed to the tremendous stress and passed away in 2012.

Practitioner Cheng Fengxiang Suffers the Torture of "Hammering Bamboo Sticks under the Fingernails"
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
