Ms. Zhang Shunxian Faces Trial for Suing Former Chinese Leader

Oct. 20, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Guizhou Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Shunxian was arrested in Guiyang City on April 19, 2016, after filing a criminal complaint against former Chinese Communist leader Jiang Zemin for directing the brutal persecution of Falun Gong. She has been held in the Baihuashan Detention Center for nearly six months and is now facing trial.

The Yunyan District Police Department submitted Ms. Zhang's case to the Yunyan District Procuratorate on July 12.

Ms. Zhang's daughter received a phone call from the procuratorate on September 19 suggesting that she hire an attorney for her mother.

When Ms. Zhang was arrested, her pregnant daughter was violently thrown to the ground by police; she subsequently suffered a miscarriage.

Arrest

Ms. Zhang submitted her criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin after China's Supreme People's Court announced on May 1, 2015, that it would process all cases submitted by citizens.

Six officers from the Dayingpo Police Station broke into Ms. Zhang's home on April 19, 2016. Officer Liu Xiaohong shouted, “You sued Jiang Zemin. We will arrest you!”

Ms. Zhang was alone at home and called out her daughter's name for help. Liu roared, “Stop shouting!” The secretary of the neighborhood committee came in and said, “Stuff her mouth.” Two officers came and handcuffed Ms. Zhang.

Liu Xiaohong called for more officers, who ransacked Ms. Zhang's home and confiscated two laptops, a printer, a paper cutter, and a bag containing informational materials about Falun Gong.

Ms. Zhang's daughter, Xiao Yangyuan, rushed over and questioned the police at the neighborhood entrance. She asked them to show their identification. Instead of showing their IDs, they threw the pregnant woman to the ground, which caused her to lose the child.

Hiding in Remote Areas for Ten Years

Ms. Zhang has suffered greatly since the communist regime started its persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999.

Officer Liu Xiaohong and others constantly harassed and threatened her. To avoid arrest, she hid in a farmhouse in a remote area for 10 years.

The Yuanyan District Police Department also pressured the Caichong Coal Mine to suspend her pension and housing subsidies from 2003 to 2015.

The police also harassed her family and pressured her son's girlfriend to leave him. Liu also tried to stop the family's landlord from renting the home to them.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners over the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
