Cultivating My Moral Standard as a Housemaid

April 1, 2016 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in Jilin Province, China

(Minghui.org) I am a Falun Dafa practitioner from Jilin Province. I worked as a housemaid after I was fired from my job because of my belief.

Practitioners Create Xinxing Tests

My first job as a housemaid was in April 2013 at the home of Mr. and Ms. Wang, both Falun Dafa practitioners. They operated a material production site in their home to make informational materials about Dafa and the persecution. Since Ms. Wang suffered from sickness karma, her husband had to do everything by himself, as well as take care of his wife.

The couple's children visited daily, so I had to cook for all of them. Everyone's tastes were different, which resulted in complaints about my cooking. I regarded this as an opportunity to improve my moral standard (xinxing), so I tried to improve my cooking skills. In time there were fewer complaints.

Their eldest daughter decided that her mother should eat at least five meals a day. This created a lot more work for me, but my heart was not moved. I just smiled and did as asked.

There were a lot of cultivation tests for me in their home. When I washed my bed sheet, Ms. Wang saw a blanket underneath and said that she had looked for it several times. She didn't seem happy that I had it. Although I didn't say anything, my heart was moved. It was not easy to pass the test that a practitioner created for me.

Her second daughter sat down on my bed. She said that it was too hard and that I should put some extra blankets on it. I smiled and told her not to worry.

I was supposed to look after Ms. Wang when her husband left the house sometimes, but he often forgot to tell me when he did. When he couldn't find his wife one time when he returned home, he turned hostile towards me. However, he soon realized that he had overreacted and apologized. We finally found her at the old people’s home, chatting with a former neighbor.

This time he lost his temper with his wife. “Please don't scold her now that we have found her,” I interrupted. “It's a good opportunity for us to improve our xinxing. We'll be more considerate next time and tell each other when either of us leaves the house.” He nodded with tears in his eyes.

I went home and made dinner. When he walked in the door, he apologized for his behavior.

This incident made me realize that some conflicts between practitioners arise for one of two reasons: Either one or both of us have to let go of an attachment or the old forces are trying to create disharmony. It reminded me to consider others first and always look within.

Ms. Wang became lax in her cultivation after she was discharged from the hospital. She ended up being partially paralyzed and could not take care of herself. She became incontinent and easily lost her temper. My xinxing tests increased, which helped me to improve in my cultivation.

Validating the Fa Through My Job

I took on another job as a housemaid for a family of four in 2014. Mr. Zhang, a former commander, and his wife were in their 90s. Their son was a departmental chief in the Procuratorate and their daughter-in-law was an accountant.

Master asks his practitioners to be good, so I did many chores without complaint, and the family was very impressed.

Ms. Zhang had cracked heels that often hurt. She was told to rub them with a pumice stone, but she couldn't reach her feet. So I rubbed them for her every night.

With the Chinese New Year approaching, the daughter-in-law wanted to give me a bonus, which I didn't accept.

I told her, “Practitioners talk about predestined relationship. It is predestined that I work for you as a housemaid. All I want is for you to know the truth about Falun Dafa and the persecution and to understand that Falun Dafa is good.”

Their eldest son and daughter came to visit them on Mother's Day, so I prepared a lavish meal. Mr. Zhang tried to give me 1,000 yuan for looking after them, but I refused to accept it and explained that I only did what a good housemaid should do.

Mr. Zhang was a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and believed without question the lies and propaganda put out by the CCP media about Falun Dafa. When I talked to him about Dafa, he told me to practice at home if it was so good and not to oppose the government, because it would not do me any good.

When it was time for me to move on and stay with my son, their daughter-in-law didn't want me to go. She and her husband believe that Dafa is good, but I regretted that Mr. Zhang still believed the lies of the communist regime.

I went to see them again a month later. I gave him a copy of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and other Dafa informational materials. He told me that he was not interested in reading them, but kept them anyway. I hope that, as long as he opens his mind and reads them, he will some day learn the truth about Dafa.
