(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Shuying, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, was placed under “criminal detention” on April 24, 2016, and will likely be made to stand trial for her spiritual belief in Falun Gong.
Ms. Wang was arrested on April 8, 2016. The police ransacked her home and confiscated her computer, printer, and Falun Gong books and flyers. She was transferred to a detention facility the following day.
When her family visited her in detention on April 12, 2016, they weren't allowed to buy her a food voucher or leave her any clothes. All they were permitted to do was deposit 100 yuan (about $15) for her use.
On April 20, her husband went to the police station and demanded her release. Shao Kunhai, the deputy head of Xilin Police Station who arrested Ms. Wang, told him that they had already submitted her case to the police department.
Four days later, Ms. Wang was transferred to Jiamusi Detention Center and placed under criminal detention, a measure ordinarily used for “major suspects,” but one that is often applied in the persecution of Falun Gong.
Criminal detention usually implies that the case had been approved by the Procuratorate and will be followed by indictment and a trial. The person can be detained for several months under this designation.
This was Ms. Wang’s fifth arrest for practicing Falun Gong. She was subjected to long-term forced labor, sleep deprivation, brainwashing, and other forms of torture during her previous arrests.
