The parade, as part of the Teddy Bear Festival, is a major annual event for local residents. Crowds of people who came out to watch the parade waved at the Falun Gong procession, took pictures, and got Falun Gong introductory flyers. Many Chinese spectators also took this opportunity to find out about Falun Gong.
Mr. Wang from China, who was in Canada visiting his family, was surprised to see that Falun Gong was quite different from how the Chinese government portrayed it.
Another Chinese said with emotion, “There is a Chinese saying, 'Whoever inspires the people can rule the world.' The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is completely corrupt, and people are disgusted with it. But Falun Gong has won people's hearts all over the world. It will certainly prosper as a righteous belief!”
Ms. Wang, a Falun Gong practitioner, said Chinese tourists were eager to find out about Falun Gong and the persecution. Many of them chose to quit the CCP's organizations as soon as they heard what she had to tell them. She showed the reporter a piece of paper filled with the names of Chinese people who had quit the communist organizations through her.
Mr. Richard Stewart, the mayor of Coquitlam, has been supportive of Falun Gong practitioners' efforts to end the persecution. He played a waist drum with the Falun Gong contingent in the 2014 parade.

City Councillor Mr. Dennis Marsden made a stop to take pictures of Falun Gong practitioners doing the exercises together before the parade.
Mr. Tom MacDonald, the parade host, introduces the Falun Gong procession.
Mr. Tom MacDonald, host of the parade, introduced Falun Gong as a traditional Chinese cultivation practice that follows Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance. He said that Falun Gong had brought health and spiritual benefits to people in more than 100 countries. He expressed admiration for their impressive waist drummers, beautiful float, and exercise demonstration. He encouraged the spectators to applaud Falun Gong for being the perfect finale to a grand parade.
