Couple Arrested for Helping Falun Gong Practitioner

Aug. 31, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shanxi Province, China

(Minghui.org) More than 20 police officers broke into Mr. Cheng Weiping's home on the morning of August 18, 2016, arresting him and his wife Ms. Fan Meixiang. The police believed Mr. Cheng helped Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Qiao Jianjun evade arrest by the 610 Office in July.

Mr. Qiao was sentenced to four years in prison in 2012 for distributing Shen Yun Performing Arts DVDs in Wenshui County. When he was released from the Jinzhong Prison on July 14, 2016, personnel from the Shawan 610 Office in Xinjiang waited at the prison gate and attempted to force him into a car. Mr. Qiao refused.

When he asked them to show their police ID cards, none did. Mr. Qiao got into a car half an hour later driven by a Falun Gong practitioner and left the prison.

The police suspected that Mr. Cheng was involved when Mr. Qiao evaded them. Therefore, officers ransacked Mr. Cheng's home in Jizhou Village, Luliang City, Shanxi Province, and confiscated a computer, four printers, Falun Gong books, 5,000 yuan and other personal belongings.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Yunhua was arrested by four officers after she left Mr. Cheng's home that morning. She was taken to the Wenshui Detention Center and interrogated. The police tried to get information to implicate Mr. Cheng in connection with the escape.

Ms. Li was released that evening after police realized that they could not get the information they wanted from her.

Mr. Cheng is held in the Wenshui Detention Center, and his wife is held in the Lishi Detention Center. The Wenshui Procuratorate is preparing to submit a lawsuit against them.
