Ms. Wang Yaping Sentenced to Prison for Suing Jiang Zemin

Jan. 12, 2017 |   By a Falun Gong practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Yaping, 61, from Shenyang City was taken to the Pingluo Women’s Prison on December 27, 2016, for filing criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin, the former Chinese dictator.

China's Supreme People's Court implemented a new “Registration System Reform” in May 2015. It stipulates that all criminal complaints must be registered when received. Ms. Wang took advantage of this reform, just as so many other practitioners, and filed complaints.

Ms. Wang was arrested in October 2015 and sentenced to two years in prison. In June 2016, she appealed the verdict to the Shenyang Intermediate People's Court, which upheld the decision without a trial.

Tried and Sentenced for Suing Jiang Zemin

Ms. Wang was arrested by the Heping District Domestic Security Team on the evening of October 20, 2015, for filing criminal complaints against Jiang. She was taken to the Taiyuan Police Station and informed that she would be released if she withdrew her lawsuit. If not, she would be sentenced to three years in prison.

She was transferred to the Shenyang City Detention Center. Her arrest was approved by the Procuratorate on November 27, 2015.

When Ms. Wang was tried in the Heping District Court on March 16, 2016, her attorney defended her right to file a lawsuit against Jiang, basing his defense on the Chinese Constitution, which, he contended, protected her right to practice Falun Gong.

Ms. Wang, speaking on her own behalf, said that she was innocent and had sued Jiang Zemin for being persecuted in the Longshan Forced Labor Camp.

Ms. Wang was sentenced to two years in prison. She appealed the verdict with the Shenyang City Intermediate Court on June 16, 2016.

Shenyang City Intermediate Court staff called Ms. Wang's family on September 22, 2016, to inform them that the original verdict had been upheld and that her case would not be re-tried. Ms. Wang's family plans to lodge another appeal.

One Year of Forced Labor

After Jiang Zemin started the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Wang, like many Falun Gong practitioners, was persecuted. She was arrested in the spring of 2001 and sentenced to one year of forced labor in the Longshan Forced Labor Camp of Shenyang City.

Ms. Wang was retired from the Shenyang City Railway Station. Despite being in very poor health, she worked hard and was awarded the title of “model worker.”

After she began to practice Falun Gong, her health improved greatly. She recovered from tuberculous, degeneration of the spinal column, and a psychological disorder marked by fatigue.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners over the past 17 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of this brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the CCP established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. This organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
