(Minghui.org) Wei Xingzhu, a Falun Gong practitioner in Baiyin City, was recently sentenced to one year in Dashaping Prison in Lanzhou City.

Mr. Wei, 53, was arrested on July 8, 2016 for filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese Communist Party who launched the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999. Mr. Wei's arrest was approved two weeks later.

Baiyin District Court tried Mr. Wei on December 18, 2016 without notifying his attorney or family. He was given a one-year sentence several days later. He filed an appeal but the Baiyin Intermediate Court upheld his verdict in fewer than ten days.

Mr. Wei's attorney visited him in the Baiyin Detention Center and found him in poor health: he is suffering from stomach problems, frequent vomiting, and dizziness.

His family requested that he be allowed to go to a hospital several times. When he was eventually given medical attention, he was found to have ulcers in the duodenal bulbar and bleeding in his stomach.

The detention center agreed to release Mr. Wei on December 19, but he was instead taken to prison.

Mr. Wei was previously imprisoned from 2004 to 2012 for refusing to renounce his belief in Falun Gong. He was severely tortured in Lanzhou Prison and suffered a gastric outlet obstruction. He vomited blood and was hospitalized for an extended period of time.
