How I Clarify the Truth to the Police

Jan. 15, 2017 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) In the summer of 2015, the local police arrested me for filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin.

I was released four days later from the detention center under Master's protection and the assistance of overseas practitioners. Since then, I have tried to improve how I clarify the truth to those officers who arrested me.

Gap Between Practitioners and Myself

I tried clarifying the truth to the police when I was arrested. Some listened a little, and some refused to accept it. Only one policeman accepted what I said and told me when no one was around, “Although I don't know you, I respect Falun Gong.”

On my last day, the detention center told the police to take me away but officially refused to release me. I was taken to other detention centers located in sparsely-inhabited areas, but those centers rejected me. On the outskirts of town while inside the police car, I looked within myself and thought, “Although I could not save you (police officers) just now, I must save you next time.”

At this moment, I felt a young policeman blow air at my elbow and heard him mumbling to himself. “No matter how much I blow, this mosquito won't fly away,” he said. I had previously contended with this officer. He became kinder the moment I changed my thoughts. Later, they sent me back to the police station and finally back home.

When I returned home, I looked up the contact information for these officers and mailed truth-clarification materials to them. I never thought of clarifying the truth face-to-face with them.

An incident happened shortly after the Chinese New Year in 2016 that changed my mind.

A practitioner was arrested and released on bail. However, she was later arrested again. I had a thought that it would not be easy for her to be released this time because the police department interrogated her children to gather more information. The police at the detention center were heard commenting that she would not be released this time as her arrest has been approved.

Yet, the practitioner went home a few days later. She negated the persecution and thought only of saving people. She returned to clarify the truth to the police after her release.

This made me think, “Why do I acknowledge the persecution?” I found that it was due to my attachments to fear, selfishness, and negative thoughts. I was unconsciously validating myself. I was determined to rectify this.

I thought of clarifying the truth to the police. I could feel that Master helped me to remove my attachment to fear and many of my negative thoughts.

Another Practitioner Told Me to be Compassionate

The first time I went to the police station was after a big group Fa study. I walked into the station while others were nearby sending righteous thoughts. The deputy head that I was looking for was not in, so I left.

As I crossed the road, I met an elderly lady who persuaded me to quit the Communist Party. I replied that I was also a practitioner.

She saw that I had just stepped out of the police station and told me her story.

She met a policeman at a market who had previously tried to arrest her. She grabbed his arm and said, “You have caused me tremendous trouble!” She hit him as she spoke like a mother punishing her child. The officers did not move and said, somewhat embarrassed, “But we didn't arrest you in the end.”

It was no coincidence that I met that practitioner. I felt that Master was asking me to change my thinking and not be tough. This was a hint to be kind when saving people.

Looking Within After My First Truth-Clarification

Not long after, I went to the police station again and was successful in meeting the deputy head. “You practice Falun Gong,” he said when he saw me and asked if I was still practicing.

When I did not respond, he asked, “So, what brings you here?”

“I would like you to return my printer.”

“I can't give it to you,” he said. “If I return it, you will continue to print and distribute materials.”

I told him that distributing materials is legal and offsets the damage done by Jiang Zemin, who ordered the self-immolation on Tiananmen Square as a propaganda stunt and the persecution of Falun Gong. I explained that we clarify the truth for the sake of the people's future.

He didn't respond for a long moment. Finally, he said, “I'll give it back to you next time. It's in the storeroom.”

I asked him not to be biased against Falun Gong, as practitioners live by the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and strive to be good people.

He interrupted me before I could finish: “I don't hold a prejudice against you. I respect Falun Gong as a belief.”

I continued to tell him about quitting the CCP. “Quitting the Party is not a political act. I hope you will awaken and do your job well. I hope you will be safe.”

He thanked me.

I continued to tell him about quitting the Party as he walked out of the room. As soon as he left the room, his attitude changed back. In a loud voice, he said, “I'm not quitting!”

When he came to my house to arrest me, he had seemed like a kind person. There, I said to him so no one could hear, “Why are you so silly to follow orders from the police department? Those who persecute Falun Gong will have to pay for it. Don't be so silly!”

He hung his head and remained silent. I turned around and saw another officer start to confiscate my Dafa books. As I rushed forward to take them back, the policeman I spoke with shouted behind me to his subordinate, “Give them back to her!”

As for the printer, it was taken away when he first stepped into my house when I had yet to tell him about Dafa.

Now, at the police station, he was behaving strangely. He shouted, “Uphold the Party!”

I was angry. “Uphold it?”

He continued to walk up the stairs. He turned around but did not speak.

At that moment, I saw many people nearby and decided not to shout back at him, as Dafa disciples should act peacefully. “Think carefully what I just said. It's for your own good.”

Later, I asked another policeman to quit the Party, and he agreed without hesitation.

I met a practitioner the next day. She told me that she had gone to the police station to clarify the truth. When she asked one officer if he lived in the area, he lost his temper. “What is the meaning of your words? There are cameras above us.”

I suddenly understood why the deputy head had acted strangely. Initially, he talked to me in the break room, where there were two beds. Off the corridor just outside the break room were interrogation rooms.

When I went to the police station again, I saw that that corridor had many cameras installed in the ceiling. I looked within and realized that I was not being considerate of the officer. In addition, I felt that the officers should listen to me since I was saving them.

Conversation with a Fierce-Looking Policeman

I saw a plainclothes officer leaving the station as I passed by. It was the one who had arrested me. He had shouted for two more officers to come to the interrogation room to forcibly make me sign a document when I refused.

I felt that I hadn't cultivated well at the time and could not save them. I sat on the floor and cried so as not to cooperate with them. They didn't force me in the end.

Now that I met him again, I asked myself: Should clarify the truth to him? For the sake of saving people, I was not afraid of being ridiculed. I asked Master to strengthen me.

I chased after him and said, “Hello!”

He turned around, nodded, and said to me politely, “You're on a break?”

“You must be very busy,” I said.

“Yes. The station changed supervisors, and we are very busy.”

I asked him if they are still involved in persecuting Falun Gong. He replied affirmatively.

I asked if he remembered me. He did. I commented that I did very well that time; otherwise, I would have been sentenced.

That time, I refused to cooperate. They dragged me to many hospitals for examinations. The detention center refused to accept me and took me back to the police station. Finally, the police bribed the detention center to hold me for two days.

“Do you hate me?” I asked.

“No. We said you are one tough lady,” he replied.

I told him about Falun Gong, the principles of karmic retribution, and how Dafa disciples must oppose this persecution to prevent the police from persecuting kind people and commiting a crime.

“We're not targeting you!” he said. “It's just that the department has targeted someone and laid out the tasks. They instructed the station to arrest the person. We didn't want to do this, but we had to,” he said.

I continued to clarify the truth and asked if he was a CCP member. He was.

I asked him to quit, and he agreed. He took the initiative to understand the situation of those practitioners who were persecuted by the Party. He got a call, and we parted ways.

I thank Master for this arrangement so I could save this policeman.

“Which Officers Don't Understand?”

I expand my capacity for kind thoughts each time I clarify the truth to the police. I also see my shortcomings. I dislike hearing a policeman tell me, “Don't go out and promote [Falun Gong].” I always want to explain this clearly to them.

Through studying the Fa, I understand that I must consider their perspective. One officer was regularly in charge of the police dispatch line. Each shift lasted 24 hours, and he had to attend to almost 20 calls a day. He thought that we were distributing materials outside and were reported by people who did not understand us. He was not actually against Falun Gong.

I recalled the first time that I clarified the truth to him. “If I hear residents say that Falun Gong is bad, how can I remain silent and let them continue?”

“If that is the case, you can explain to them,” he said, “but don't go on the street and strike up a conversation with people.”

This told me that he knows that the CCP has fabricated lies about Falun Gong.

I showed him photos of a practitioner named Gao Rongrong, who was disfigured and tortured to death. He looked at it and said, “Throw it away. Don't show it to others when you are outside.”

“I can't throw it away. The head of the police station has yet to see this. I am showing it to you because you don't understand,” I said.

“Who doesn't understand? Which officers don't understand?”

I later had a chance to clarify the truth to him for nearly two hours at a community event. Others present also listened. He understood and agreed to quit the CCP later when I met him outside the police station, where there were no cameras.

How Police React to Practitioners' Compassion

Last year, after I was arrested, the police planned to send me to a detention center. We were waiting outside the center when an overseas practitioner called one of the policemen. His number was published on Minghui.org after I was arrested.

Another policeman who was listening to the call asked him to press the hands-free button so that I could listen.

I heard a familiar voice saying, “Do you still want to persecute [practitioners]?”

It was Xiaoli, a practitioner with whom I had previously studied the Fa. One of the police praised her for speaking Mandarin so well. Xiaoli's compassion allowed the officers to finish listening to her. Finally, one officer took the phone, released the hands-free button, and said to Xiaoli, “I'm hanging up!”

I could not hear Xiaoli's reply, but the officer said again, “I'm hanging up!”

I was released two days later.

I previously felt that the police are persecuting us. Actually, they are also sentient beings who are waiting for Dafa to save them.

When reading Zhuan Falun, I recalled that Sakyamuni had high-level Fa that allowed one to leave with the true body, but, in order for people to abandon their attachments, he opted for the path of nirvana. This path was taken when he compassionately considered sentient beings instead of leaving in glory.

I realized that, although on the surface I was doing it for the sake of others, I was in fact validating myself. I am now trying my best to be considerate of others as I save them.

Thank you, Master, for your protection! Thank you, fellow practitioners, for your assistance.
