(Minghui.org) Seven Fushun residents are confirmed to have been sentenced to prison in 2016 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Ms. Duan Shumei was arrested on January 13, 2016 and sentenced to 3 years on December 9. She is now being held at Shenyang Women’s Prison.
Ms. Li Yuhuan was arrested on April 7, 2016 and later sentenced to one year.
Ms. Zhao Jing and Ms. He Lizhong were arrested on April 15, 2016 and soon sentenced to prison, with Ms. Zhao given 5 years and Ms. He 3 years. They are appealing their verdicts. Ms. He once served 9 years of prison for her faith. She had a relapse of her heart problem following her latest arrest.
Ms. Tian Caiying, around 60, was arrested on April 22, 2016. The police confiscated her Falun Gong materials and other personal valuables, including close to 90,000 yuan in cash that she had planned to use for a mortgage payment.
She developed severe health problems due to abuse by the detention center guards and was once seen at a hospital receiving IV drips with her hands cuffed and feet shackled. She was later sentenced to 7.5 years.
Mr. Du Xinggui, 65, was arrested on June 29, 2016 and tried on November 10. He was sentenced to three years on November 28. The judge said after announcing the verdict, “We don’t want to sentence you at all, but the Political and Legal Affairs Committee ordered us to do so.” Mr. Du is currently out on bail after the detention center refused to admit him, citing his health condition.
Ms. Li Lizhen, around 50, was arrested on July 18, 2016 and later sentenced to 2.5 years. Her appeal has been turned down.
