(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Fan Fengzhen was tried by the Xiangyang District Court on December 1, 2016, and sentenced to two years of house arrest several days later.
Ms. Fan, 54, and several other practitioners were arrested on August 20, 2015, when a practitioner's cellphone was being monitored by the authorities.
She was released after being held at the Hegang No. 2 Detention Center for 20 days and was frequently harassed afterward. Officers from the Xiangyang District Procuratorate also went to her mother's home to intimidate her family.
Ms. Fan, from Hegang City, is the head of the medical ward at Lingbeikuang Hospital.
Ms. Fan's husband Mr. Zhang Yaoming, along with several other Falun Gong practitioners, gained access to a cable television network on April 20, 2002, and interrupted the programming to show a documentary of the self-immolation hoax on Tiananmen Square.
More than 500 practitioners were arrested as a result of the broadcasts.
Mr. Zhang was sentenced to 19 years in prison and is still incarcerated at Tailai Prison.
Ms. Fan was also arrested and given three years of forced labor. She was incarcerated at the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Center, where she was severely tortured.
She was once held under water and shocked with electric batons. Another time, five male guards shocked her with electric batons, causing her to become disoriented and unable take care of herself.
Ms. Fan was released in October 2004, when she was on the verge of death. She has still not recovered from the injuries she sustained there.
