Shandong Woman Sentenced to 3 Years of Probation for Spreading Information about Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) A 72-year-old woman in Ji’nan City was sentenced to three years of probation for spreading information about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Ms. Zhang Jinghua gave a Falun Gong brochure to a person who she didn’t know was a plainclothes officer on July 21, 2015. The officer didn’t reveal his identity at the time but followed her home. Two days later, the local police ransacked Ms. Zhang’s home and seized her.

It took the police almost a year to submit her case to the local procuratorate, which returned the case two weeks later, on May 31, 2016, citing insufficient evidence.

The police tried again on June 17 and persuaded the procuratorate to indict Ms. Zhang on June 20.

Ms. Zhang was ordered to serve three years of probation in February 2017.

This is not the first time that Ms. Zhang was targeted for trying to stop the police from persecuting Falun Gong. She ran into a police chief surnamed Sheng one day in 2002. Upon learning of his high blood pressure symptoms, she shared with him how she had recovered from the same ailment by practicing Falun Gong. She advised him to give the practice a try.

Chief Sheng, however, deceived her into going to the local 610 Office and had her detained. She was given three years of forced labor on February 28, 2002.

Ms. Zhang was arrested again on May 31, 2012, and given one year of forced labor three weeks later, though she served the term at home.

Ms. Zhang’s third arrest took place on April 8, 2014. She was detained for 10 days and fined 500 yuan. Fast forward to July 23, 2015, when she was arrested a fourth time and released on bail the next day.
