Sichuan Man Released after Procuratorate Declines to Issue Arrest Warrant

June 1, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Chongqing

(Minghui.org) A resident in Guang’an City, Sichuan Province was released after Hechuan Procuratorate in Chongqing declined to issue a formal arrest warrant against him for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Mr. Xiang Lin was arrested on February 27, 2017 while visiting a friend in nearby Chongqing (a centrally-controlled municipality). This was not the first time he had been targeted for his faith. He was once sentenced to 7.5 years in prison in 2010 and suffered brutal torture during his imprisonment.

Following his latest arrest, Mr. Xiang was kept at a local brainwashing center for one month before being transferred to a local detention center.

The Chongqing police submitted his case to Hechuan Procuratorate, which declined to issue a formal arrest warrant against Mr. Xiang, citing insufficient evidence.

Mr. Xiang returned home on May 3, 2017.
