Two Hunan Residents Targeted for Their Faith – One Sentenced to Prison, the Other’s Whereabouts Unknown

June 3, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hunan Province, China

(Minghui.org) Two women in Yueyang City were targeted for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Ms. Zeng Jinlian, who was recently sentenced to 5 years in prison, is appealing her sentence. Ms. Jiang Yi’s family is still trying to find out where she is being detained, because the police never notified them of her whereabouts.

Ms. Zeng Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Zeng was home on the night of November 23, 2016, when more than 24 agents broke in and arrested her and her husband, who does not practice Falun Gong. The police confiscated her Falun Gong books, computers, cell phones, and about 100,000 yuan in cash.

Her husband was released hours later, but Ms. Zeng remains in the Yunxi Detention Center.

Eager to get her out, her husband visited the local police station and other government agencies, which all promised that she would be released soon.

Ms. Zeng, however, was tried on April 28, 2017, and sentenced to five years in prison on May 10.

Ms. Jiang Arrested

Ms. Jiang, a retiree in her 70s, was running errands on May 10, 2017, when she received a call saying something was going on at her home.

She rushed back to see more than two dozen people from the local police station and her former employer ransacking the place.

The police confiscated her Falun Gong books and took her away. They did not tell her husband where they were going to take her.

Ms. Jiang’s family suspects she may be held at a local brainwashing center, but they have yet to verify it.
