(Minghui.org) It has been confirmef that 55 Falun Gong practitioners are still incarcerated in Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison for refusing to renounce their faith. The prison became the only centralized facility in the province to hold practitioners after the Chinese communist regime abolished its forced labor camp system in 2013 due to international pressure.
The affected practitioners were convicted during a six-year span, with one sentenced in 2012, 11 in 2014, 16 in 2015, 22 in 2016, and one in 2017. One other practitioner was arrested in early 2015, but the date of her sentencing remains to be investigated.
Except for four practitioners whose terms are unknown, the others were given 1.5 to 8 years in prison, with an average term of 3.98 years and a median of 3.5 years.
Many of the women are already in their 60s or 70s, but like their younger counterparts, they are still subjected to beatings, solitary confinement, forced labor without pay, sleep deprivation, revocation of family visits, and other forms of abuse.
The prison has intensified its persecution of detained practitioners since 2016. It regularly forces practitioners to take unknown drugs that damage the central nervous system, leaving many of them disoriented or incapacitated.
The guards also inflict psychological abuse as one of their tactics to coerce practitioners to renounce their faith. For example, they once wrote the name of the founder of Falun Gong on the ground and made the practitioners stomp or sit on the name. Ms. Liu Chang’e from Yingtan City said that such abuse caused her and other practitioners tremendous emotional distress.
