People Serve as a Mirror to Our Cultivation Status

Aug. 23, 2017 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner from Guizhou Province, China

(Minghui.org) It was even obvious to me that I was not being a diligent practitioner. For some time. I was causing conflicts and knew that I should look within. However, when I looked within, I could not identify any problem. Recently, by studying the Fa and reading many cultivation experience sharing articles on the Minghui website, I learned how to look within.

Before I began practicing Dafa, I always insisted on things being done my way, even with my boss, and my colleagues called me overbearing.

After I learned Dafa, I tried to restrain myself but it was not working. I justified my behavior by thinking that I was efficient.

I read many experience-sharing articles on the Minghui website about looking within. I also increased my Fa study and tried to do the three things well. I learned how to look within.

Seeing Oneself in Others' Behavior

My parents are not practitioners. My father is introverted, timid, and picky. He often talks about others. My mother is strong willed. She rules the roost at home and insists that my father do things the way she wants them done.

One morning after doing the Dafa exercises I overheard a conversation between my parents. My mother was insisting my father do things her way. I came to realize that nothing is accidental for a practitioner. Was I suppose to hear this so I could realize I had a similar problem? When looking within, I discovered that I was exactly like her. I forced my opinion and way of doing things on everyone I encountered. I always thought I knew best.

My personality was not only a reflection of my mother, but also of my father. My attachment to fear and suspicion was just like my father's. I still do not dare to tell the truth about Dafa face to face. I always worry about being persecuted when I clarify the truth, which shows that I do not totally believe in Master and the Fa.

Just like my father, I like to pick on others or complain about them. When others talk, I interrupt them in the middle of a conversation, and loudly voice my opinion, regardless of how they feel. Besides, I did not cultivate my speech.

I was shocked after I discovered that I had so many problems and attachments. I had a new understanding about what Master said,

'Ordinary people don’t know that all of this is encompassed by the expression “the appearance stems from the mind.” So, put another way, one’s own factors can in fact change one’s surroundings. “Cultivate yourself” and “search within” are words that I have said in a very straightforward and clear manner. (Laughing) But, there aren’t that many people who give these words due weight.' (“Fa Teaching Given at the Epoch Times Meeting” from Teaching the Fa at the Conference X)

I realized that my cultivation status would affect my environment and the people in it, which could serve as my mirror and reflect my cultivation status. It is up to me to check on myself against the Fa when I see other people's behavior.
