Mother Detained for Her Faith, Son Beaten by Police for Seeking Her Release

Aug. 24, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Guangdong Province

(Minghui.org) A woman was arrested in Maoming City for talking to people about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. Her son was later beaten by police for seeking her release. The young man wasn’t released until several hours later. His mother remains detained.

Ms. Lin Lizhen was arrested around 1 p.m. on August 19, 2017, and taken to Huangling Town Police Station.

Several plainclothes officers showed up at her home three hours later. Her younger sister refused to open the door for them. Her son, Mr. Wu Zhaoqi, her 84-year-old grandfather, and her aunt went to the police station at around 5:30 p.m. to inquire about her condition.

Chief Feng Yanqiang refused to talk to the family and shoved them outside. The family stayed put and heard Feng talk to someone on the phone, who ordered him to arrest Mr. Wu.

Mr. Wu refused to comply and was knocked to the ground and dragged inside the police station. Five officers assaulted him, giving him a bloody nose and knots on his head.

Mr. Wu questioned them, “I’m here to ask for my mother’s release. Why are you arresting me?” Feng put him in a choke hold and yelled that he had disturbed police.

The police cuffed Mr. Wu’s hands behind his back and repeatedly hit him during the interrogation. His mother, Ms. Lin, happened to be held next door. She heard her son’s voice and yelled, “You can’t arbitrarily beat people!”

Mr. Wu’s great-grandfather and great-aunt, who had been waiting outside all this time, were told he’d be released at 9 p.m. Four people, including Tang Feipeng and Luo Yongyang, both local government officials, and two officers from another police station, soon arrived to say they’d drive the family home.

Another officer was waiting outside when the family was escorted home at 11:50 p.m.

Ms. Lin has been on a hunger strike since her arrest. She is now being held at Dianbai District Drug Rehabilitation Center.
