Still Mourning Husband’s Death, Woman Is Arrested a 16th Time for Her Faith

Aug. 9, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shandong Province

(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Ping was still mourning her husband’s death when she was arrested and had her home ransacked on July 26, 2017 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by China's communist regime.

Ms. Zhang’s late husband, Mr. Zhang Daozhong, also practiced Falun Gong. The couple credited Falun Gong for saving their marriage and returning them to health. As such, they never shied away from telling people how Falun Gong changed their life and how the persecution was illegal from the onset. Their simple acts landed them on police radar.

Mr. Zhang was arrested a total of 14 times, and twice he was given forced labor following his arrests. Police once shocked him with several batons simultaneously. They also kept him awake for two weeks straight. His health quickly deteriorated as a result, and he passed away on July 29, 2014.

Ms. Zhang’s latest arrest was preceded by 15 prior arrests. The resident of Weifang City was also twice given forced labor just like her husband. There was one time when the couple was sent to labor camps at the same time, leaving her then-76-year-old mother-in-law traumatized. The elderly woman died on the second day of the Chinese New Year in 2010.

Ms. Zhang is currently being held at Weifang Detention Center. Her 92-year-old father-in-law, who relies on her heavily, struggles to live a normal life.
