Hebei Woman Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison After Two Arrests in 2017

Jan. 14, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Zheng Caiqin returned home on May 25, 2017, to find her personal belongings and valuables scattered around her courtyard. Three locals pacing around said police had pried open her door and ransacked her home hours earlier, and they were each paid 60 yuan to keep watch over her possessions.

The Wangdu County resident was targeted because she refused to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Even before she had a chance to inspect what had been moved out of her house, three officers arrived to arrest her and load the confiscated items into their police cruiser. They didn’t show ID, a search warrant, or an arrest warrant.

Ms. Zheng was interrogated that evening at the local police department. She refused to give her fingerprints. Officers pricked the back of her hand, leaving two needle holes. They also yanked her hair to forcibly take her picture and cuffed her hands behind her back.

The 53-year-old woman was then driven to Wangdu County Detention Center, where she began having severe back pain. She was released on the sixth day.

Ms. Zheng visited Zuo Ke, the local Communist Party Secretary, to share her detention experience several days after she returned home. Zuo reported her to police as soon as she left.

Her neighbors heard her scream around 9 p.m. on July 6 and knew that she had been arrested again. This time, she was sent to Baoding City Detention Center. She was sentenced to 5 years in prison on December 19.
