Despite Her Case Being Twice Reconsidered, Hebei Woman Still Jailed for Her Faith

Jan. 29, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Shang Yukun was sentenced to four years in prison for her faith, and is appealing her case.

The Hengshui City resident was arrested in neighboring Shenzhou City on April 15, 2017 while distributing materials that exposed the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong, a mind-body practice based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

Agents of Gaoguzhuang Police Station in Shenzhou contacted their counterparts in Hexi Police Station, Hengshui right after arresting Ms. Shang. The Hexi Police Station then led the way to ransack her home.

Ms. Shang was held in the Shenzhou City Detention Center for three days before being moved to the Hengshui City Detention Center. Her lawyer met with her on May 5 and learned that she had been handcuffed and shackled for refusing to wear the inmates’ uniform. She was also forced to sleep on a cement floor for several days.

Ms. Shang’s family revealed the news of her arrest and abuse to the Minghui website. In retaliation, the guards at Hengshui City Detention Center abused her in exactly the same manner for 15 more days.

The Shenzhou City Procuratorate twice returned Ms. Shang’s case to Gaoguzhuang Police Station, which resubmitted the case each time. The Procuratorate eventually indicted Ms. Shang and forwarded her case to Shenzhou City Court in late August.

Ms. Shang was sentenced to four years in prison on December 29, 2017.
