Heilongjiang Woman on Hunger Strike in Protest of Arbitrary Detention

Oct. 30, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Ding Hongjuan went on a hunger strike around October 22, 2018, to protest her detention for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual self-improvement practice persecuted by the communist regime since 1999. She is now very weak.

The 51-year-old woman from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested for talking to people about Falun Gong on September 11, 2018. The police ransacked her rental apartment and confiscated her Falun Gong books, laptop, printer, and other personal items. She has been held ever since in Daqing Detention Center.

Her family went to Huizhan Police Station to demand her release the day after her arrest. The police told them that they would detain her for only three days for investigation. Her family refused to sign the detention notice, which stated that Ms. Ding committed crimes for her faith.

Instead of releasing her as promised, the police submitted her case to the procuratorate and her arrest was approved on September 24, 2018. She is now facing the likelihood of imprisonment.

Ms. Ding's parents are both in their 80s. Her father is paralyzed and her mother is also suffering from physical ailments. They are anxious about her safety and longing for her to return home.
