(Minghui.org) A 75-year-old Chongqing resident was hospitalized thirteen days after she was ordered to go through an intensive training program aimed to make her renounce Falun Gong, a mind-body practice being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Ms. Tang Tianzhen's family received a notice from Chongqing Women's Prison on December 14, 2018 saying that the program started on the first day of her prison admission (December 5) and that she would be denied family visits for two months. They received a call from the prison on December 18 and was told that Ms. Tang had been hospitalized for high blood pressure and gallstones.
While the prison claimed that Ms. Tang's medical conditions existed before her imprisonment, her family argued that the prison would not have admitted her with these conditions.
Ms. Tang's family said they were not aware of any preexisting conditions she had and suspected she was subjected to intensive physical and mental torture since her arrest on June 6, 2018 for talking to people about Falun Gong.
They did not know her whereabouts until August 22, when they received a phone call from Longyan Detention Center. The detention center only allowed them to send clothes to her and did not allow them to meet with her.
When Ms. Tang's family went to the detention center again on November 5, they were told she had been put on trial on October 25. When they returned on December 6, they were told she had been taken to Chongqing Women's Prison the day before to serve a three-and-a-half-year term.
