(Minghui.org) Three members of a single family in Linqing City were sentenced to prison over the course of one year for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Mr. Kang Shoubo was arrested at home on June 9, 2015. The police returned hours later to ransack his home without him being present. They confiscated his valuables, including 10,000 yuan in cash. Later that night, they came back for a second time to confiscate his wife’s cell phone. She was told to pick her husband up on June 30, 2015, but she was seized the moment she walked into the local police station. She was held for several hours before being released. Her parents-in-law were arrested days later. Her husband was tried on November 23, 2016, and sentenced to three years in prison.
Mr. Kang’s parents were arrested again in 2017. His father, Mr. Kang Zongfeng, was arrested on February 18, 2017, after being reported for posting information about Falun Gong in public. His mother, Ms. Wei Fengqin, was arrested two days later when she sought her husband’s release. His brother, Mr. Kang Shouqiang, was seized on April 6 when he went to ask for his parents’ release.
The elderly couple appeared in court on August 11 and a verdict was issued on November 22, 2017. The older Mr. Kang was sentenced to 2 years in prison and his wife to 11 months. His appeal has so far been turned down.
Ms. Wei returned home at the end of her term.
