Chongqing Woman Secretly Sentenced to Prison, Denied Family Visits

March 7, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Chongqing

(Minghui.org) Ms. Ren Xianglian’s family didn’t find out that she had been sentenced to three years in prison until they went to the local detention center on December 5, 2017 as requested. They have no clue of when she was tried or how long her jail term was. To date, they still haven’t received a copy of her verdict.

The Chongqing City resident was arrested on July 13, 2016 while distributing materials exposing the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Her family was never given notice of her arrest or detention. It took them weeks to find out that she was sent to Yubei District Detention Center.

Ms. Ren’s loved ones were summoned to the local center on December 5, 2017. They were told to pick up her clothes, as she was getting ready to be transferred to Jiulongpo Women’s Prison. The guards refused to disclose information about her trial. They told the family to wait two months before requesting to see her in prison.

The family called in early February 2018, but the prison said that no meeting with Ms. Ren would be allowed as long as she refused to renounce Falun Gong.
