Villagers Arrested after Police See Them Putting Up Falun Gong Posters on Surveillance Cameras

Sept. 3, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) Five Falun Gong practitioners were arrested on May 17, 2018, for putting up posters with information about their persecuted faith.

The practitioners were spotted on village surveillance cameras in police headquarters in Shenzhou City, Hebei Province. Officials there then ordered the local police to arrest them.

With advancements in AI technology in recent years, China has built the world's biggest surveillance network, which includes an estimated 200 million surveillance cameras around the country.

Although practitioners Shan Jiandong, Wang Lanshang, Shan Zengxi and Zhang Xiaoqun were released eight days after they were arrested, the driver, Mr. Tian Xingbao, is still being held in custody at Shenzhou City Detention Center.

A village official took the police to Mr. Tian's home, which they ransacked on May 18. They confiscated his computer, printer, Falun Gong books, and Falun Gong materials. They also took more than 10,000 yuan in cash, although most of the money was returned to Mr. Tian four days later.

The police recently submitted Mr. Tian's case to Anping County Procuratorate. His lawyer met with him in the detention center on August 24 to prepare a defense for his possible indictment.
